Johannesburg, 10 December 2025 — In a powerful celebration of humanity, service, and shared purpose, Standard Bank — Africa’s largest financial institution by assets — has honoured its most remarkable changemakers at the second annual CSI Volunteering Impact Awards.

What began in 2024 as a platform to recognise employees who invest their time, skills, and resources in community upliftment has evolved into one of the bank’s flagship purpose-led events. The 2025 ceremony reaffirmed Standard Bank’s belief that corporate citizenship is strongest when it emerges from the hearts of its people.

Celebrating the Courage to Care

“At Standard Bank, we believe that real impact starts with the courage to care,” says Dr Kirston Greenop, Head of Corporate Citizenship at Standard Bank Group. “Every day, across our organisation and beyond, extraordinary employees step forward, not for recognition, but to change lives, uplift communities, and bring hope where it’s needed most.”

This year, more than 3,000 volunteers across South Africa gave their time and expertise to causes they believe in — a testament to the deep culture of service embedded in the organisation. Their contributions extended far beyond hours volunteered; employees collectively donated R1.18 million to charitable causes in 2025.

Doubling Impact Through Rand4Rand

Central to this momentum is Standard Bank’s pioneering Rand4Rand Matching Programme, which amplifies every employee donation by matching it, Rand for Rand. The model has transformed individual acts of giving into significant collective impact.

Since inception, the programme has channelled millions of Rands into community-led initiatives in education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment — driving long-term social benefit in the areas that need it most.

Honouring Excellence in Service

The Volunteering Impact Awards were designed to celebrate individuals and teams who exemplify leadership, compassion, and innovation in community service. Winners are recognised across five categories:

  • Individual Excellence Award
  • Team Collaboration Award
  • Changemaker Award
  • Dedicated Ambassador Award
  • Future Leaders Award

Each winning volunteer receives R100 000, not for personal use, but to donate directly to the nonprofit or community initiative they supported during the year. This ensures that recognition immediately translates into real-world impact.

A Culture of Service That Extends Beyond the Bank

The awards reaffirm the bank’s commitment to embedding citizenship into its core identity — not simply as a corporate strategy, but as a way of life.

“We are proud to be an organisation that actively takes an interest and contributes in the communities where we operate,” says Dr Greenop. “These awards represent a moment to honour those who embody the spirit of service, compassion, and impact which underpin our broader purpose: Africa is our home; we drive her growth.

A Legacy of Shared Purpose

More than a ceremony, the Volunteering Impact Awards reflect the growing movement of Standard Bank employees who recognise their ability to shape the future of the communities they serve. By championing volunteerism and matching donations, Standard Bank continues to inspire a powerful message: that meaningful change is possible when people are empowered to lead it.

The 2025 awards not only celebrated outstanding volunteers — they also affirmed the bank’s belief that its greatest impact will always come from the passion, generosity, and humanity of its people.
