JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s next generation of women leaders will converge in Johannesburg on 21 August 2026 as Young Leaders Connect (YLC) hosts its sixth annual IDEAL Leadership Summit and Awards, an event that has become one of the country’s premier platforms for leadership development, mentorship and professional collaboration.
Held under the theme “Impact That Transforms,” this year’s summit will explore how women leaders can drive meaningful organisational and societal change in an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence (AI), while highlighting the enduring value of human-centred leadership.
Rather than focusing solely on technological advancement, the summit will examine whether qualities such as empathy, ethical judgement, resilience and courage will become the defining competitive advantages in the AI-driven economy.
The programme features keynote presentations, TED-style talks and high-level panel discussions covering leadership under pressure, mentorship, sponsorship, governance and the evolving realities facing women in executive and leadership positions.

The initiative succeeds Vision 2025: Empowering the Future, shifting the organisation’s focus from nurturing individual leadership potential to mobilising collaborative leadership capable of delivering measurable economic and social impact.
The strategy reflects growing recognition that complex challenges—including youth unemployment, gender inequality and digital transformation—require collective leadership and cross-sector partnerships.

Demonstrating Measurable Impact
Since relaunching in August 2020, Young Leaders Connect has established itself as a meaningful contributor to women’s leadership development in South Africa.
The organisation reports that it has:
- Mentored more than 550 young women
- Provided governance training to over 250 participants
- Supported more than 200 women entrepreneurs through business development and skills programmes
- Established five tertiary education chapters across South Africa to develop future women leaders.
These achievements position the organisation as an important player in building leadership capacity among young professionals and entrepreneurs.

YLC Co-Chair Kagiso Mavuka believes expanding opportunities begins with expanding perspectives.
