As the sun sets over the picturesque Meander Estate in Bronkhorstspruit, the air will be filled with the enchanting sounds of jazz, the joy of community, and the vibrant energy of dance at this year’s JAM’nJAZZ 2025, spanning September 13 and 14. This unique festival is set to celebrate South African culture in a picturesque setting, nestled within natural beauty and a lively atmosphere.

Featuring three stages, including the J’J’ Hall of Jazz, The Jam Garden Stage, and The J’J’ LOVElyment Garden After Party, JAM’nJAZZ will highlight the spirited performance art known as Dobol. This lively dance tradition is integral to South Africa’s jazz social club scene, making it a fitting tribute as the festival fosters connections through music and celebration.

The J’J’ Hall of Jazz: A Dance of Tradition

On September 13, the J’J’ Hall of Jazz will transform into a showcase of Dobol dancing, with performances from notable dancers like King Damash, who at seventy, continues to amaze audiences with his vigorous performances, and Mzwakhe Mbatha, a master Doboler honouring his late father’s legacy through the art of dance. Other performers set to grace the stage include TikTok sensation Jennifer Mahlangu and the dynamic duo Oumakie & Jockey, promising an experience steeped in joy and camaraderie.

Leading the celebrations, seasoned Dobol dancer Noba Jones Mona will direct the dancer’s interpretations, while acclaimed jazz collectives, the Apostles of Jazz, provide the perfect soundtrack to keep the vibrant energy alive throughout the night. Artists such as Bra Bizza and Sister Pat Shuping will spin records, ensuring the spirit of jazz is continually infused into the festivities.

Jam Garden Stage: Rising Stars and Established Talent

September 13 will also unveil the Jam Garden Stage, headlined by local sensation Musa Sukwene, the 2013 S.A. Idols winner. The audience can expect an emotional and heartfelt performance from the artist who hails from Emalahleni. Adding to the excitement is Tshenolo Sebogodi, the inaugural LOVElyment Rising Star, who is set to dazzle festival-goers with her stunning voice and captivating stage presence.

Acclaimed poet Kgafela oa Magogdi will bring a unique poetic touch to the Garden stage, creating a special Batho/Bantu Jam collaboration. The line-up also features talented musicians like Ali Moyana, who carries the mantle of afro-soul with echoes of renowned legends, alongside top DJs spinning the beats into the night.

J’J’ LOVElyment Garden After Party: A Celebration Continues

The festivities continue on September 14 with the J’J’ LOVElyment Garden After Party, where vibist Ngoako Manamela and percussionist Volley Nchabeleng will create a pulsating soundscape for attendees. The performance, described as a Vibe-Ssion, is set to fuse traditional African rhythms with modern interpretations.

Experience the soulful sounds of keyboardist Malatji, renowned for his debut album, and indulge in the Durban jazz flavours presented by pianist Mthobisi Mthalane. As the festival unfolds, the audience can also groove to the tunes of the standout Jazz DJs, ensuring that the weekend culminates in a perfect celebration of music, dance, and community.

Producer Bongani uMkhonza Mahlangu encapsulates the essence of the event: “The art of merriment is at the HeArt of the South African Jazz social club community.” With the vibrant atmosphere promised at the Meander Estate, JAM’nJAZZ 2025 is poised to become a memorable encounter celebrating the unifying power of jazz.
