Cape Town, South Africa – Friday, 10 April 2026
For trail runners seeking a rare blend of raw mountain challenge and world-class scenery, the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon Trail Run promises an unforgettable experience when it returns to Table Mountain on Friday, 10 April 2026.
Now in its 13th edition, this exclusive event forms part of the iconic Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon weekend and offers runners the opportunity to explore some of Table Mountain’s most spectacular and seldom-run trails. With only 500 runners per distance, the Trail Run delivers an intimate, immersive adventure on one of the most famous natural landmarks on the planet.
Participants can choose between two demanding yet rewarding distances — approximately 16km and 24km — each designed to showcase the mountain’s diverse terrain, dramatic elevation and breathtaking views.

“Both distances invite runners to experience the magic of Table Mountain in a truly special way during the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon weekend,” says Chris Goldschmidt, Chairperson of the Two Oceans Marathon NPC.
“With only 500 runners per distance, participants can look forward to an exclusive, immersive trail adventure surrounded by some of the most iconic scenery in the world. Entries are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so runners are encouraged to secure their spot early.”
Two Distances, Two Distinct Experiences
While both routes offer authentic mountain running, organisers stress that runners should carefully assess their fitness levels and trail experience before selecting a distance.
“Both the 16km and 24km routes offer trail running at its finest, complete with spectacular views across Table Mountain,” explains Wade Bromfield, General Manager of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon.
“The 16km route is ideally suited to newcomers to trail running, providing an authentic yet accessible introduction to the sport. The 24km route, however, is designed for more experienced trail runners and requires a solid level of fitness and regular time spent training on technical trails.”

The 16km Route: An Ideal Introduction
With approximately 960–1000m of ascent, the 16km route is mildly challenging and rewards runners with a rich variety of terrain. Highlights include the cool, leafy trails of Newlands Forest, sweeping city and ocean views from Devil’s Peak, and a mix of gravel single track, jeep track, grassy fields and short tar sections. Two steep climbs test the legs, while flowing downhills demand focus and control.
The 24km Route: A True Mountain Test
Designed for seasoned trail runners, the 24km route features a formidable 1790–1800m of ascent, including the exposed and technical climb up Mowbray Ridge above the Blockhouse. Rocky sections along the Contour Path and Woodcutters Trail require care, but the reward is exceptional — panoramic views, wild mountain scenery and a sense of achievement that only a classic Table Mountain trail run can deliver.
Above the forest line, runners are treated to vast, open landscapes and unforgettable vistas, making every demanding climb worthwhile.
