Masai Leads Kenyan Sweep as Haitope Dominates Women’s Race at Two Oceans Half Marathon

Cape Town — East African athletes delivered a commanding performance at the Totalsports Two Oceans Half Marathon, with Kenya’s Felix Kibet Masai winning the men’s race in a blistering 1:03:17 while Namibia’s Lavinia Haitope secured a dominant women’s victory in 1:14:36.

The race, held in Cape Town as part of the wider Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon, once again reinforced its status as one of the continent’s premier road-running spectacles.

Kenyan domination in the men’s race

Masai set the tone early with a decisive surge alongside compatriots Shadrack Ngumbau Musyoka and Joshua Kiptegei Mengich, who finished second and third respectively.

The trio broke the field apart with a rapid opening 5km split of 15:35 and reached halfway in 31:27, never relinquishing control thereafter. South Africa’s George Kusche was the top local finisher in fourth place.

Masai’s winning time was just one second shy of the long-standing course record of 1:03:16, highlighting the intensity of the front pack.

Haitope delivers commanding women’s performance

In the women’s race, Haitope ran a tactically controlled and aggressive race, breaking away early when the pace eased and maintaining a relentless rhythm to the finish.

She crossed the line comfortably ahead of Zimbabwe’s Fortunate Chidzivo in 1:16:29, while Britain’s Emma Pallant-Browne secured third in 1:18:09.
