Pretoria – South African fighters rose to the occasion in emphatic fashion as the PFL Africa Pretoria Event made its electrifying debut at the SunBet Arena on Saturday night, delivering a spectacle of world-class mixed martial arts and unforgettable moments.

Backed by a passionate home crowd, the event produced standout performances across the card, headlined by dominant victories from Nkosi Ndebele and Justin Clarke in the main and co-main events respectively.

Ndebele Claims Bantamweight Bragging Rights

In a high-octane bantamweight main event, Ndebele showcased composure and precision to secure a unanimous decision victory over Italy’s Michele Clemente.

Dubbed a “classic shootout,” the bout lived up to expectations as both fighters exchanged sharp strikes and relentless combinations. Clemente pressed forward with aggression, but Ndebele’s counter-striking and ring intelligence proved decisive, earning him a clean sweep on the judges’ scorecards (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

The victory cements Ndebele’s status as one of the continent’s premier bantamweight talents.

Clarke Stuns with Comeback Knockout

The co-main event delivered one of the night’s most dramatic moments as heavyweight contender Clarke produced a stunning first-round TKO victory over Senegal’s Abdoulaye Kane.

After being rocked early and left visibly bloodied, Clarke dug deep, absorbing pressure before unleashing a thunderous counter right hand that sent Kane crashing to the canvas. The referee stepped in at 2:12 of the opening round, sparking wild celebrations inside the arena.

Welterweight Tournament Heats Up

The welterweight division added further intrigue as fighters battled for progression in the tournament bracket.

Nigeria’s David Samuel maintained his unbeaten record with a dominant first-round submission victory over Abdelrahman Mohammad, combining sharp striking with clinical ground work.

Meanwhile, Guinea-Bissau’s late replacement Rivaldo Pereira seized his opportunity, stopping Kunle Lawal via TKO in the first round after a devastating body shot.

The pair are now set for a highly anticipated semi-final clash.

Angola’s Shido Boris Esperança also impressed with a first-round stoppage of Emilios Dassi, while South Africa’s Peace Nguphane rallied from early pressure to defeat Yabna N’Tchala via unanimous decision, delighting local fans.

Esperança and Nguphane are now on a collision course in the semi-finals.

Strong Performances Across the Card

Elsewhere on the card, Nigeria’s Juliet Ukah edged compatriot Jane Osigwe in a closely contested split decision, while several preliminary bouts showcased the depth of African MMA talent.

PFL Africa Expands to Nigeria

In a major announcement, the Professional Fighters League confirmed its expansion into West Africa, with its next event scheduled for 13 June 2026 at the Eko Arena.

The Lagos card will be headlined by Nigerian star Wasi Adeshina, who returns home to defend his reputation against Spain’s Ignacio Campos. A lightweight co-main event featuring Patrick Ocheme and Octave Ayinda is also set to draw significant attention.
