South Africa’s premier women’s running event, the Totalsports Women’s Race 2026, is set to return this August with renewed purpose—continuing its long-standing partnership with PinkDrive as its official charity partner.

Spanning three major cities—Durban (2 August), Cape Town (9 August), and Johannesburg (16 August)—the 2026 series aligns with Women’s Month, reinforcing its commitment to women’s health, unity, and empowerment.

Running for More Than Fitness

While the race remains a celebration of fitness and community, its partnership with PinkDrive elevates it into a platform for life-saving impact. As a long-time beneficiary, PinkDrive continues to play a critical role in advancing breast cancer awareness, education, and early detection—particularly in underserved communities.

“Being involved in the Totalsports Women’s Race has allowed PinkDrive to move beyond traditional awareness campaigns and connect more deeply with communities in a practical, visible way,” says Nelius du Preez. “The race significantly expands our reach, enabling on-the-ground screening services while building trust through accessible engagement.”

Community-Centric Engagement Across Cities

Each city brings a unique dynamic to the initiative, with PinkDrive tailoring its approach to maximise impact.

The series kicks off in Durban, where Janice Benecke will lead engagement efforts. The coastal leg is particularly important in reaching women who may not typically access formal healthcare systems.

“By integrating education and screening awareness into a lifestyle event, PinkDrive removes barriers related to cost and access, encouraging early detection conversations in a supportive, non-clinical environment,” Benecke explains.

Cape Town follows on National Women’s Day, with Athandiwe Tyuluba emphasising the event’s role in uniting women across communities.

“This race is more than a run—it’s a platform that celebrates strength, unity, and wellness while raising awareness about critical health issues. My message is simple: prioritise your health and encourage others to do the same,” she says.

The final leg in Johannesburg will once again see du Preez leading PinkDrive’s presence, engaging a diverse cross-section of participants—from corporate runners to grassroots clubs. “For some, it’s about reinforcing routine screening; for others, it may be their first exposure to breast health education,” he notes. “Through strategic partnerships, we ensure the conversations sparked at the race extend well beyond race day.”

Bringing Healthcare to the People

At each race, PinkDrive will offer a hands-on, community-focused experience, including clinical breast examinations conducted by trained nurses, guidance on self-examinations, and referrals for further screening where necessary.

These on-site activations are designed not only to inform but to empower—encouraging women to take ownership of their health and share knowledge within their communities.

A Platform for Purpose

For event organisers, the partnership underscores the deeper purpose behind the race.

“The Totalsports Women’s Race is a truly iconic celebration of women, and we are incredibly proud to continue our partnership with PinkDrive,” says Nikki Crous. “Across all three cities, the event remains a powerful platform to unite women while shining a meaningful spotlight on breast cancer awareness and early detection.”

Strong Demand Across the Series

Entries for the 2026 series opened in April, with demand already surging. The Cape Town race has officially sold out, while Durban and Johannesburg entries remain open until early July and August respectively—or until capacity is reached.

More Than a Race

As it returns for another year, the Totalsports Women’s Race continues to evolve beyond a sporting event into a national movement—one that blends fitness, community, and purpose.

In 2026, the message is clear: every step taken is not just towards the finish line, but towards greater awareness, early detection, and ultimately, saving lives.
