A renewed push to reimagine and revitalise South Africa’s economic hub is taking shape as Standard Bank partners with Primedia Broadcasting to host the highly anticipated 702 Jozi My Jozi Walk the Talk 2026.
Scheduled for 26 July 2026, the initiative will bring thousands of residents into the heart of Johannesburg, inviting them to rediscover the city through a guided walk across its historic central business district (CBD). More than a public event, the walk is positioned as a statement of confidence in the city’s renewal and future potential.
Walking Towards Urban Renewal
The Jozi My Jozi Walk the Talk initiative is rooted in a broader vision: restoring pride, safety, and economic vibrancy in Johannesburg’s inner city. As a founding corporate partner of the Jozi My Jozi programme, Standard Bank has aligned its long-term urban strategy with the event’s mission to reshape perceptions and encourage active citizen participation.
“Standard Bank remains committed to supporting initiatives that drive meaningful community impact,” says Yolisa Koza, Group Head of Brand Experience at the bank. “This initiative forms part of our ongoing work to help recreate a sustainable future for the inner city—one that is safe, clean, and inclusive for those who live and work here.”
Investment Beyond the Event
The partnership reflects a deeper, sustained investment in Johannesburg’s urban regeneration. Standard Bank has been actively involved in multiple projects aimed at restoring infrastructure, enhancing safety, and creating shared community spaces.
Among these is the development of the Field of Dreams Johannesburg, a fully equipped sports complex inspired by Ali Bacher and developed in collaboration with the Maharishi Invincibility Institute. The facility represents a tangible investment in youth development and community upliftment.
In parallel, the bank plays a key role in the Forum of Integrated Risk Mitigation, a collaborative platform addressing security challenges in the CBD. Its contributions include infrastructure upgrades such as solar lighting and backup power systems for traffic signals—critical interventions aimed at improving safety and operational stability in the city.
Culture, Community and Collaboration
Standard Bank’s urban renewal efforts also extend into the cultural space. Through its partnership with the Johannesburg Art Gallery, the bank has supported the return and exhibition of 145 artworks as part of a Homecoming Exhibition hosted at the Standard Bank Gallery—reinforcing the role of arts and culture in urban regeneration.
The Walk the Talk route itself will reflect this blend of heritage and progress, starting and ending at Ellis Park Stadium and passing key landmarks, including Standard Bank’s historic headquarters on Simmonds Street.
A Collective Vision for Johannesburg
At its core, the initiative underscores the importance of public-private collaboration in addressing complex urban challenges. By bringing together corporate stakeholders, media platforms, and the broader community, the Walk the Talk aims to catalyse both social cohesion and economic activity.
“We believe that unity will help revive our beloved Jozi,” Koza adds. “This partnership is not just commercial—it is driven by a shared commitment to investing in the future of the City of Gold.”
Reclaiming the City Narrative
As Johannesburg continues to navigate infrastructure pressures and safety concerns, initiatives like the 702 Jozi My Jozi Walk the Talk offer a counter-narrative—one that emphasises progress, participation, and possibility.
On 26 July, the streets of the CBD will become more than a route—they will serve as a symbol of collective ownership and renewed optimism.
In a city often defined by its challenges, this walk aims to highlight something equally powerful: its resilience, its people, and its potential.
