JOHANNESBURG – Standard Bank Group has strengthened its position as Africa’s leading financial services institution after securing 17 prestigious accolades at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026, reinforcing its leadership in corporate and investment banking, securities services, sustainable finance and SME banking across the continent.

Widely regarded as one of the global banking industry’s most respected benchmarks, the Euromoney Awards for Excellence recognise financial institutions that demonstrate outstanding performance, innovation, client service and market leadership.

This year’s awards saw Standard Bank receive recognition across multiple African markets, highlighting the group’s expanding influence and its continued commitment to financing economic development, supporting businesses and driving investment throughout the continent.

Among the flagship honours were Africa’s Best SME Banking Ecosystem, Africa’s Best for Securities Services, and Africa’s Best Investment Bank for Equity Capital Markets, reflecting the bank’s ability to serve clients ranging from entrepreneurs and small businesses to multinational corporations and institutional investors.

The group also secured country-specific accolades, including South Africa’s Best Bank for Large Corporates, Nigeria’s Best Bank for Sustainable Finance, Malawi’s Best Bank, and investment banking awards in Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda.

Additional recognition for large corporate banking in Botswana and Mauritius further reinforced Standard Bank’s strong presence across Africa’s commercial banking landscape.

Standard Bank Group Chief Executive Officer Sim Tshabalala said the awards reflect the institution’s ability to support every segment of the economy while advancing sustainable growth across the continent.

“These awards recognise Standard Bank’s ability to serve clients across the full spectrum of the economy, from entrepreneurs and SMEs to multinational corporates, institutional investors and governments. We continue to drive sustainable growth on the continent by connecting capital to opportunity and supporting trade, infrastructure, energy and economic development.”

He added that the achievement was a tribute to the dedication of the bank’s employees and the confidence placed in the institution by its clients.

“This achievement reflects the extraordinary commitment of our people across the continent and the trust that our clients continue to place in us, for which we remain very grateful.”

The latest honours add to an already impressive year for Standard Bank.

The group was recently recognised as South Africa’s most AI-mature bank and ranked second overall across the Middle East and Africa in the inaugural Evident AI Index for Banks, highlighting its growing investment in artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

Earlier this year, Brand Finance also named Standard Bank Africa’s Most Valuable Banking Brand and South Africa’s Most Valuable Banking Brand for a fifth consecutive year, underlining its continued strength, customer confidence and market leadership.

The bank further cemented its reputation by winning top honours across six categories at the Euromoney Private Banking Awards 2026, showcasing excellence in wealth management and private banking services.

The latest Euromoney Awards reinforce Standard Bank’s position as a key driver of Africa’s financial sector, with a business strategy centred on enabling trade, expanding access to capital, supporting sustainable development and helping unlock economic growth across the continent.

As African economies continue to evolve, the bank’s growing list of international accolades reflects not only operational excellence but also its expanding role in shaping the future of banking, investment and financial inclusion across Africa.
