DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA – Lesotho’s distance running star Neheng Khatala delivered a commanding performance to secure her first-ever Totalsports Women’s Race title, crossing the finish line in 32:06 at the 2026 Totalsports Women’s Race Durban on Sunday, officially launching South Africa’s Women’s Month celebrations in style.
The victory marked a significant milestone in Khatala’s career, with the Lesotho national record holder finally claiming the top step of the podium after years of competing at the highest level.
Speaking after her memorable triumph, an elated Khatala described the victory as both emotional and rewarding.
“I’m so excited to be part of the race today. It’s been a good year for me. The race was great and the route is fast. We tried to push the pace, but unfortunately the wind made it difficult,” she said.
Despite challenging windy conditions along the course, Khatala remained composed as the leading pack stayed together during the opening stages of the race.
“The ladies were very strong, so we maintained the pace together. At around the 5km mark, I knew I was going to win the race. I’m very grateful, and I’m also happy for the other ladies,” she explained.
The Lesotho athlete emphasised that maintaining a winning mentality has been central to her success.
“Winning is always on my mind. As an athlete, you always have to aim to win. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen, but you need to stay mentally strong and always strive for the win or the best possible position.”

Durban Holds Special Memories
Sunday’s victory carried additional significance for Khatala, who previously set her national record in Durban.
While she narrowly missed improving that mark, she believes the weather conditions prevented an even faster performance.
“Crossing the finish line first today means a lot to me. Durban is where I set my national record. I missed it today, but I think if it hadn’t been for the wind, I would have run faster.”
Khatala also praised the organisation of the event, applauding the professionalism of the organisers.
“I love this race. The organisers take great care of us, the event is exceptionally well organised, and everything is just perfect.”
