Johannesburg, South Africa – 24 March 2026

South Africa’s entrepreneurial landscape is set for a major boost as Future 50, powered by First National Bank Business, enters its third season—marking a pivotal shift from a regional success story to a national growth platform for high-potential small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

What began as a KwaZulu-Natal-focused initiative has rapidly evolved into one of the country’s most influential business accelerators, showcasing more than 100 entrepreneurial success stories over the past two seasons. Now, with a bold national rollout, Future 50 is positioning itself as a catalyst for scalable growth, innovation, and economic resilience.

From Regional Success to National Impact

Future 50 first gained traction through weekly business features on East Coast Radio’s Breakfast Show, where entrepreneurs shared their journeys alongside renowned business growth expert Pavlo Phitidis. The platform offered more than exposure—it provided practical insights, credibility, and a springboard for growth-minded businesses.

A key highlight in the programme’s evolution was the Scale-Up Exchange event held in October 2025. Designed as a strategic accelerator within the Future 50 ecosystem, the event brought together businesses from the first two cohorts in KwaZulu-Natal for a high-impact day of learning, collaboration, and networking.

The Exchange featured interactive workshops led by Phitidis, structured networking sessions, and live broadcasts—creating a rare environment where entrepreneurs could share real-world experiences and gain actionable strategies for scaling sustainable businesses.

Unlocking SME Potential

Speaking at the event, Asheen Magjee, Provincial Head at FNB in KwaZulu-Natal, underscored the importance of initiatives like Future 50 in driving economic growth.

“FNB is focused on helping South African SMEs move beyond surviving to truly thriving. Through the Future 50 programme, we’ve seen how access to expert guidance, meaningful exposure, and a network of like-minded business owners can unlock confidence and growth,” he said.

His remarks reflect a broader recognition of SMEs as the backbone of South Africa’s economy—key drivers of job creation, innovation, and long-term sustainability.

Season Three Goes National

Building on its strong foundation, Season Three will extend beyond KwaZulu-Natal into major economic hubs including the Western Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and North West.

This national expansion is designed to foster a connected, cross-provincial ecosystem—enabling businesses to collaborate, share knowledge, and access opportunities beyond their immediate regions.

Selected businesses will benefit from extensive visibility across radio, digital platforms, and social media—reaching over five million peak-time listeners and connecting them to potential customers, partners, and investors.

Building a Stronger Business Ecosystem

Through its national rollout, Future 50 aims to:

  • Elevate high-growth businesses across key economic regions
  • Enable cross-provincial collaboration and knowledge-sharing
  • Strengthen South Africa’s business ecosystem and value chains
  • Drive job creation, sustainability, and economic confidence

At its core, the programme is about more than recognition—it’s about building a pipeline of resilient, scalable businesses equipped to navigate a rapidly evolving economic landscape.

Call for Nominations

Entrepreneurs across the country are encouraged to participate by nominating themselves or others through partner radio station platforms. Nominations are open to businesses demonstrating strong growth potential, innovation, and a commitment to long-term impact.

As Future 50 enters this new phase, First National Bank Business remains steadfast in its mission: to empower South African entrepreneurs with the tools, insights, and networks needed to scale confidently and sustainably.

A Platform for the Future

In a challenging economic climate, initiatives like Future 50 are not just programmes—they are platforms for possibility. By amplifying entrepreneurial voices and enabling meaningful connections, the initiative is helping shape a more dynamic, inclusive, and future-ready economy.

For South Africa’s SMEs, the message is clear: the future is not just something to navigate—it’s something to build.
