JOHANNESBURG – FlySafair has reinforced its reputation as South Africa’s most reliable airline after maintaining the country’s strongest on-time performance (OTP) throughout 2026, highlighting its operational excellence and commitment to delivering dependable, affordable air travel.
The low-cost carrier has consistently achieved punctuality levels exceeding 92% this year, recording an impressive 94.14% on-time performance in June, a benchmark that places it ahead of its domestic competitors in one of the industry’s most important performance indicators.
On-time performance (OTP), measured according to International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards, tracks whether flights depart or arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. In South Africa, these figures are independently monitored and published by the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) across the country’s three busiest airports—OR Tambo International Airport, Cape Town International Airport and King Shaka International Airport.
Delivering Reliability in a Challenging Operating Environment
Maintaining high levels of punctuality is no small achievement in an aviation industry frequently affected by unpredictable weather conditions, air traffic congestion and airport infrastructure constraints.
Despite these operational challenges, FlySafair has consistently demonstrated its ability to minimise disruptions while safely returning flights to schedule.
“Our industry operates within a complex environment where many delays are outside an airline’s direct control,” said Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair.
“We’re proud to maintain the strongest on-time performance in South Africa by reducing the impact of disruptions on our customers and restoring normal operations as quickly and safely as possible.”
The airline’s performance has been particularly notable at OR Tambo International Airport, Africa’s busiest aviation hub, where FlySafair recorded an industry-leading 92.31% on-time performance during May 2026, comfortably outperforming the airport’s overall punctuality benchmark of 87%.

International Recognition Reinforces Operational Excellence
FlySafair’s domestic success mirrors its growing international reputation.
Earlier this year, global aviation analytics company Cirium recognised the airline as the Most On-Time Airline in the Middle East and Africa for 2025, after achieving an exceptional 91.06% on-time arrival rate while successfully operating 98.9% of its scheduled flights.
The accolade places FlySafair among the region’s most operationally reliable airlines and further strengthens its standing as one of Africa’s leading low-cost carriers.
Reliability Drives Customer Value
For FlySafair, punctuality extends far beyond operational statistics.
The airline believes reliable schedules translate directly into a better customer experience by enabling passengers to plan with confidence, minimise waiting times and enjoy greater convenience throughout their journeys.
“Reliability is about far more than operational metrics,” Gordon explained.
“It forms part of our broader mission to make air travel more accessible for South Africans. When flights operate on time, passengers can better plan their business trips, family holidays and everyday travel while enjoying the value they expect from FlySafair.”
A Decade of Award-Winning Growth
Since commencing operations in 2014, FlySafair has established itself as Southern Africa’s leading low-cost airline through a combination of competitive fares, operational efficiency and consistent service delivery.
The airline currently serves 10 domestic destinations alongside five regional international routes, connecting South Africa with neighbouring countries while continuing to expand affordable travel options.
Its growing list of industry accolades includes multiple Skytrax Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa awards, recognition at the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) Civil Aviation Industry Awards, and repeated honours from Cirium for operational excellence.
As South Africa’s aviation sector continues its post-pandemic recovery and passenger demand rises, FlySafair’s industry-leading punctuality demonstrates that operational reliability remains one of the airline’s strongest competitive advantages.
By consistently delivering flights on time while maintaining affordable fares, FlySafair is strengthening customer confidence and setting a high benchmark for operational excellence in South Africa’s commercial aviation industry.
