Emergency response teams from the City of Ekurhuleni Emergency Management Services acted swiftly on Tuesday morning after a serious multi-vehicle collision at a busy intersection in Rondelbult, Boksburg, leaving several people injured but miraculously claiming no lives.

The crash occurred at approximately 06:56 at the intersection of the R554 and Heidelberg Road, a key transport route frequently used by commuters during peak morning traffic in the eastern corridor of Gauteng Province.

According to emergency officials, the accident involved a light delivery vehicle (commonly known as a bakkie) and a minibus taxi transporting passengers. The force of the collision resulted in multiple casualties, with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Rapid Emergency Response

Firefighters, rescue personnel and paramedics from the City of Ekurhuleni Emergency Management Services were dispatched immediately after the incident was reported.

Upon arrival, teams quickly secured the accident scene to prevent further hazards while paramedics initiated triage procedures to assess the condition of the injured.

Emergency medical personnel stabilised the victims at the scene before transporting them to nearby medical facilities for further treatment.

Officials confirmed that several individuals required hospitalisation due to moderate and serious injuries.

No Fatalities Reported

Despite the severity of the impact and the number of people involved, authorities confirmed that no fatalities were recorded at the scene, a development emergency responders described as fortunate given the circumstances of the crash.

The accident site was later handed over to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), which has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.

Preliminary inquiries are expected to examine factors such as road conditions, vehicle speed, and driver conduct at the time of the crash.

Safety Warning to Motorists

The City of Ekurhuleni has urged motorists to exercise heightened caution on major roads, particularly during early morning rush hours when traffic volumes are at their highest.

Authorities emphasised the importance of defensive driving, adherence to traffic rules, and maintaining safe following distances to reduce the risk of collisions.
