Cape Town, 30 September 2026 โ€” The sounds of Africaโ€™s musical past, present and future are set to converge in Cape Town this December, with DJ Maphorisa announced as the latest major addition to Gallo 100: The Sound of a Century.

The South African hitmaker will take the stage at the Grand Parade on 15 December 2026, delivering a specially curated Afro House set as part of Gallo Record Companyโ€™s centenary celebrations.

Maphorisaโ€™s addition brings a contemporary edge to an event designed to commemorate 100 years of African music while highlighting the continuing evolution of the continentโ€™s sound.

He joins previously announced headline act Black Coffee, with the pairing bringing two influential figures from South Africaโ€™s electronic music landscape into a celebration rooted in a century of recorded African music.

A century of African sound

Gallo 100 marks the centenary of Gallo Record Company, whose extensive catalogue has played a significant role in recording, preserving and promoting African music and artists across generations.

The celebration will draw on a musical heritage encompassing jazz, mbaqanga, isicathamiya, maskandi, gospel, reggae, soul, kwaito and house, while creating space for contemporary sounds that continue to shape Africaโ€™s cultural identity.

Maphorisaโ€™s specially curated Afro House performance will add another dimension to that musical journey, connecting the archives of yesterday with the dance floors of today.

As a DJ and producer, Maphorisa has built a career spanning house, Amapiano, hip-hop and Afro House, contributing to the international visibility of South African contemporary music.

For Gallo 100, however, audiences can expect a set specifically shaped for the occasion, allowing the artist to explore Afro House within a festival celebrating a century of musical heritage.

Where history meets the future

Gallo 100 is being positioned as more than a traditional concert. The event will bring together live performance, music archives, storytelling and contemporary African sounds, creating an experience that connects generations through music.

The festival’s concept reflects the extraordinary breadth of African music recorded and preserved over Gallo’s 100-year history, while acknowledging the artists and producers who continue to push the continent’s sound into new territory.

With additional performers still to be announced, anticipation is building around what promises to be a major gathering of African musical talent in the heart of Cape Town.

On 15 December, the Grand Parade will become a meeting point for generations of musical memory and the sounds defining Africa’s next chapter.

One hundred years. Countless songs. Generations of memories. One sound.
