JOHANNESBURG, 14 October 2026 — From walking and jogging to competitive running, Chillie Runners is inviting South Africans of all fitness levels to lace up their shoes and take part in its annual CGA Chillie Runners 5km and 10km race on 8 November 2026, as the club aims to inspire healthier lifestyles and build stronger communities.
With a target of 2,000 participants, the club is using the event to challenge the perception that fitness is reserved for experienced athletes, promoting an inclusive message that everyone deserves a place in the running community.
Its campaign, #EyakhoNawe — “It’s yours too” — is a call to action for people to take ownership of their health, embrace movement and discover the benefits of exercising together.
Approaching its 10th year, Chillie Runners has grown from a group of friends concerned about their increasingly inactive lifestyles into a multi-sport community of more than 500 members across several provinces.
The club’s message is simple: you do not have to be fit to start; you just have to start.
Through its annual race and wider community activities, Chillie Runners hopes to demonstrate that physical activity is about more than speed, distance or competition. It can also build confidence, foster meaningful relationships and create a sense of belonging.
From a group of friends to a growing sporting community
What began as a shared commitment among friends to become more active has developed into a broader movement encouraging South Africans to make exercise part of their everyday lives.
While running remains central to the club’s activities, its interests have expanded to include cycling and golf, creating more opportunities for members to participate in sport and connect with others.
Its growing membership reflects its ambition to make physical activity accessible to people from different backgrounds, regardless of their fitness levels or sporting experience.
The club has members and growing participation across KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, the Eastern Cape and other parts of the country, including the Western Cape. Its Eastern Cape presence includes involvement in the Border Athletics (BORA) and Eastern Province Athletics (EPA) communities.
By encouraging people to start where they are, Chillie Runners aims to remove the intimidation that can prevent beginners from joining organised sporting activities.
Building healthier people and stronger communities
Beyond promoting physical fitness, Chillie Runners has undertaken community outreach initiatives aimed at making a positive difference in surrounding communities.
These efforts reflect the club’s belief that healthier lifestyles and stronger communities are built through collective action, encouragement and sustained participation.
The annual 5km and 10km race provides an opportunity to bring these values to life, welcoming experienced runners alongside first-time participants, families and anyone looking to take a step towards a more active lifestyle.
The inclusive approach also reinforces the importance of consistency over perfection. Participants do not need to be accomplished athletes to take part; walking the route, jogging at a comfortable pace or running competitively are all ways to embrace the challenge.
Mzansi, the starting line is yours
As preparations continue for the November event, Chillie Runners is encouraging South Africans to move beyond the idea that fitness is only for a select few and to recognise the value of taking that first step.
With its #EyakhoNawe message, the club is placing community and participation at the heart of its mission — reminding people that exercise can be an opportunity to improve wellbeing while building connections with others.
Whether walking, jogging or running, participants are invited to join the movement and become part of a community committed to healthier living.
The message is clear: fitness is for everyone. Eyakho nawe — it’s yours too.
