Johannesburg – Two people have been confirmed dead and three others injured following a shooting incident outside the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
According to preliminary information, the shooting occurred in the vicinity of the court premises earlier today, sending shockwaves through the area and prompting a heavy police response. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene, where two victims were declared dead.
Three additional individuals sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Their conditions have not yet been officially confirmed.
Law enforcement officers have cordoned off the area as forensic teams conduct investigations. Police have not yet confirmed the motive for the shooting, nor whether the victims were court officials, members of the public, or individuals linked to court proceedings.
Gauteng SAPS spokespersons indicated that a full investigation is underway and that more details will be released once next-of-kin have been informed and preliminary inquiries concluded.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as people fled the area following the sound of gunfire. Court operations were temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure.
Authorities have urged members of the public to avoid the area while investigations continue.
