Bassline Fest ‘Say Africa’ 2026 marks 20 years of celebrating African excellence as music legends, rising stars and cultural storytellers unite at Constitution Hill for an unforgettable Africa Day experience in the heart of Johannesburg.

Johannesburg, South Africa — Bassline Fest returns in spectacular fashion for its landmark 20th edition, bringing together some of South Africa’s most celebrated musical voices and rising talents for a powerful Africa Day celebration under the banner “Say Africa.”

Set to take place on 23 May 2026 at The People’s Park, Constitution Hill in Braamfontein, the iconic festival promises an unforgettable cultural experience that blends music, storytelling, heritage, creativity and urban culture in the heart of Johannesburg.

This year’s edition features a stellar headline lineup including celebrated vocalist Maleh, Afro-soul sensation Ami Faku, and legendary singer-songwriter Vusi Mahlasela, alongside internationally acclaimed alternative hip-hop artist Yugen Blakrok, rising star Brandon Aura, and Afro-spiritual jazz talent Xolani Sithole.

Presented in association with Castle Lite and Joburg Tourism, and supported by the National Arts Council, Bassline Fest 2026 continues its long-standing mission of honouring African excellence while creating a platform for the next generation of artists.

A Celebration of Legacy and Artistic Momentum

Now two decades strong, Bassline Fest has cemented itself as one of Johannesburg’s premier Africa Day cultural events. The festival’s enduring “Say Africa” identity reflects its commitment to celebrating African creativity, diversity and musical innovation.

“This is a festival of artists in motion,” said Bassline Fest’s Brad Holmes. “Bassline Fest 2026 arrives at a moment of major artistic momentum for its headline acts while continuing our commitment to artist development and discovering the next wave of African talent.”

Among the standout performers is Maleh, who arrives at the festival following the success of her acclaimed album Dithapelo. Her hit singles “Dithapelo” and “Bula Ditsela” have positioned her among South Africa’s most compelling vocalists, with her latest single “Ubaba” now receiving strong momentum on radio.

Music icon Vusi Mahlasela is also set to captivate audiences as he prepares to release his new single “Peace to the World” through Gallo Records on 22 May. The revered artist continues to enjoy a renewed artistic resurgence, reconnecting with audiences through his timeless sound and powerful messages of hope and humanity.

Award-winning Afro-pop star Ami Faku, one of South Africa’s most-streamed female artists, brings her emotionally rich storytelling and chart-topping catalogue to the festival stage. Known for platinum-selling hits such as “Into Ingawe” and “Abalele,” Ami Faku continues to represent the new generation of globally recognised African artists.

Meanwhile, internationally respected lyricist Yugen Blakrok brings global underground credibility to Bassline Fest following her acclaimed collaborations on the Black Panther soundtrack and appearances on global platforms including COLORS and Cyberpunk 2077.

Spotlight on Emerging Talent

Bassline Fest 2026 also reinforces its dedication to artist development through the inclusion of the Rhythmic Clash talent search winners:

  • Zinhle Madela
  • Flex of He & I
  • Shef and the Kitchen

The trio represents a diverse cross-section of contemporary African creativity, from indigenous African fusion and spoken-word artistry to electrifying live performance and Maskandi-inspired Afro-soul.

The festival also showcases the work of the Live Music Lab, a practical music industry development programme that equips young creatives with real-world experience in concert promotion, artist management and event marketing.
