Johannesburg, South Africa – The race to crown South Africa’s next international pageant queen has officially begun, with Miss African Beauty South Africa unveiling its highly anticipated Top 20 finalists for 2026 — a remarkable group of women whose achievements extend far beyond the runway.

Representing seven of South Africa’s nine provinces, the finalists embody a new generation of beauty queens: accomplished, purpose-driven and determined to make a meaningful impact in their communities and across the continent.

The announcement marks a major milestone in the journey towards the Miss African Beauty South Africa 2026 finale, where contestants will compete not only for a national title but for the opportunity to represent South Africa on some of the world’s most prestigious pageant stages, including Miss World and Miss Universe.

More Than Beauty: A Celebration of Excellence

The newly unveiled Top 20 reflects the diversity, talent and ambition that define modern South African womanhood.

Among the finalists are PhD and Master’s degree candidates, aspiring lawyers, educators, researchers, entrepreneurs, artists, healthcare professionals and an engineer. Many have founded non-profit organisations, championed community development initiatives and used their platforms to drive positive social change.

Gauteng dominates the finalist pool with ten representatives, while Limpopo contributes three contestants. Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape each boast two finalists, with the Western Cape, North West and KwaZulu-Natal represented by one finalist each.

Their fields of expertise are equally impressive, spanning civil engineering, audiology, criminology, drama therapy, cancer biology, law, financial management, digital marketing, property management and graphic design.

The pageant’s emphasis on purpose-driven leadership continues to distinguish it as one of the country’s most progressive beauty competitions.

Familiar Faces Return to the Spotlight

Several finalists arrive with notable pageantry experience and impressive credentials.

Among them is Romanda Hombir, who finished as a runner-up in Miss World South Africa 2024. Ontshiametse Tlhopane captured national attention as a Top 5 finalist at Miss South Africa 2024, while Bajabulise Thela made history as the inaugural Miss Teen Grand winner in 2021.

Casey Esmeraldo also enters the competition carrying international recognition as Miss Culture Global Queen 2024.

Their experience adds further prestige to a field already packed with talent and determination.

Global Dreams Await

The competition carries extraordinary significance, with South Africa preparing to send representatives to three of the world’s most influential international pageants.

The first international appointment has already been confirmed. Shannon Benting was crowned Miss African Beauty Miss Supranational South Africa 2026 and will represent the nation at the upcoming Miss Supranational competition in Poland on 31 July 2026.

Attention now shifts to determining South Africa’s representatives for Miss World and Miss Universe.

The contestant selected as Miss World South Africa will be announced when the Top 20 is narrowed to a Top 12 in July. She will represent the country at Miss World 2026 in Vietnam.

The eventual winner of Miss African Beauty South Africa 2026 will earn the honour of representing South Africa at the landmark 75th edition of Miss Universe, set to take place in Puerto Rico.

Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala Inspires New Generation

At the heart of the competition is former Miss South Africa and Miss World Africa titleholder Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala, who serves as CEO of African Beauty International and National Director of Miss Supranational South Africa.

Having experienced the pressures and rewards of competing on the global stage herself, Montjane-Tshabalala understands what it takes to transform a contestant into an international ambassador.

“Every single one of these women carries something rare — not just beauty, but belief,” she said. “When I look at these contestants, I see engineers, healers, storytellers, founders and fighters. I see women who didn’t wait to be given a platform — they built one.”

Her vision for the competition centres on empowering women to become influential voices both nationally and internationally.

Public Votes Shape the Finalists

The journey to the Top 20 began with an original group of 30 contestants selected by a distinguished judging panel.

Joining Montjane-Tshabalala on the panel were Lalela Mswane, celebrated designer Juan William Aria and award-winning entrepreneur Nomawothi Bafana.

Following the judges’ selections, members of the South African public cast their votes to determine the final Top 20, adding a powerful element of public participation to the competition.

A New Era of African Beauty

As preparations intensify for the next phase of the competition, Miss African Beauty South Africa continues to position itself as more than a traditional pageant.

It is a platform designed to showcase leadership, celebrate achievement and elevate women who are making meaningful contributions to society.

With international crowns within reach and a remarkable group of finalists ready to represent the nation, the road to Miss African Beauty South Africa 2026 promises to be one of inspiration, empowerment and global ambition.
