Meropa Casino & Entertainment World has emerged as a standout performer in the prestigious Sun Stars Awards, with its employees earning top honours across multiple categories in the regional competition.
The annual Sun Stars Awards, launched in 2022, celebrate employees who consistently go above and beyond in the fast-paced hospitality and gaming environment. Recognising excellence at both regional and national levels, the programme ultimately crowns a single standout performer as Sun Star of the Year.
This year, Meropa Casino’s strong showing underscores the calibre of its workforce, with several team members earning recognition for leadership, innovation, and operational excellence.

Lionel Monama Leads with Integrity
At the forefront is Lionel Monama, Gaming Technical Shift Manager, who was named Meropa’s regional Sun Star of the Year and went on to secure third place nationally. Monama was honoured in the category of Exceptional Ownership and Vigilance—an accolade reflecting his decisive action in a sensitive situation that reinforced the group’s commitment to guest safety and responsible gaming.
General Manager Charlene Ludick praised Monama’s conduct, noting that his willingness to step beyond the confines of his role demonstrated true accountability and integrity.
“His actions remind us that responsibility is not defined by job titles, but by the courage to act when it matters most,” she said.

Suzan Dikutle Named Executive of the Year
Another standout performer is Suzan Dikutle, Assistant Gaming Manager, who was awarded Executive of the Year. With over 25 years of experience in gaming and more than 15 years in management, Dikutle has made a significant impact since her appointment just over a year ago.
Her leadership has been instrumental in driving revenue growth, particularly through the expansion of private table gaming offerings such as blackjack, baccarat, and poker. Through disciplined floor management and targeted promotions, she has enhanced customer engagement and increased foot traffic.
Her achievements earned her not only the accolade but also a cash prize and an educational trip to Barcelona.

Recognising Excellence Across the Team
Meropa’s success extended beyond its top winners. Pauline Kekana, a Gaming Coordinator, secured second place for her dedication and initiative, consistently contributing beyond her administrative responsibilities within gaming operations.
Meanwhile, Financial Accountant Rene Prinsloo earned third place for her innovative approach to financial processes. By transitioning balance sheet reconciliations from manual systems to a centralised Share Drive, she significantly improved efficiency, reduced operational costs, and strengthened audit readiness.
A Culture of Excellence
According to Ludick, the achievements reflect a deeper culture within the organisation—one rooted in passion, commitment, and a shared sense of purpose.
“We couldn’t be prouder of these employees. Their initiative, loyalty, and dedication show that this is more than a job—it is a calling,” she said.
As the Sun Stars Awards continue to highlight excellence across the hospitality and gaming sector, Meropa Casino’s performance positions it as a leading example of how talent, leadership, and innovation can drive success in a demanding industry.
