Dr. David Bayever from the government drug control organization, known as the CDA, is quoted saying, “The drug problem in South Africa remains very serious with drug usage being twice the world norm in most cases…and we are only dealing with what we know about…this is only the tip of the iceberg,”. Dr Bayever says that at least 15% of South Africans have a drug problem; this number, however, is expected to rise. While some drugs are produced directly in South Africa, it is also a major transhipment hub for importing and exporting them.
Light Den Rehabilitation Centre is strategically positioned on a plot in Limpopo, to offer a place of escape from the rush of the world, while undergoing rehabilitation. The centre caters mostly to individuals who come from impoverished or disadvantaged backgrounds and as a result, individual admission is cost at a low price. As a result, The Drug Rehabilitation Centre is therefore under resourced. Contributions from Tau’s
Den Golf Day will therefore go towards addressing resource issues at The Light Den Rehabilitation Centre. The Founder of the centre will also give a key note address at the prize giving dinner.
