JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Standard Bank has reinforced its position as a leading financier of strategic African transactions after successfully structuring and funding a landmark cross-border acquisition that will strengthen financial services across nine African countries.
The continent’s largest bank by assets delivered a comprehensive financing solution to private equity firm Adenia Partners, enabling the acquisition of a controlling stake in Minet Holdings, one of Africa’s leading insurance brokerage groups. The transaction underscores growing investor confidence in Africa’s financial services sector and signals continued momentum in expanding access to insurance and financial protection across the continent.
Acting as the Sole Mandated Lead Arranger and Sole Funder, Standard Bank designed a bespoke financing package that allowed Adenia Partners to secure the highly sought-after asset in a competitive acquisition environment. The deal was led on behalf of Adenia by Principal Dan Apungu.
The acquisition represents another milestone in the strategic relationship between Standard Bank and Adenia Partners while highlighting the bank’s capability to execute sophisticated financing solutions for complex pan-African transactions.
According to Tyson Sithole, Executive Head of Equity Finance at Standard Bank Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB), the acquisition reflects a broader shift in investor appetite toward scalable financial services businesses capable of driving economic growth across Africa.
“Adenia’s acquisition of Minet Holdings reflects the growing demand for scaled, high-quality financial services platforms across Africa. With Adenia’s backing, Minet is well positioned to deepen its market presence, strengthen financial resilience, and continue advancing financial inclusion across key markets. We were pleased to support Dan Apungu and the wider Adenia team throughout the process,” Sithole said.
Minet Holdings has established itself as a major player in Africa’s insurance brokerage industry, providing insurance broking, risk advisory and financial protection solutions to both corporate and retail clients. Operating across nine African markets, the company plays a vital role in helping businesses and individuals manage risk while contributing to greater economic resilience.
The investment is expected to provide Minet with additional capital and strategic support to expand its operations, enhance service delivery and strengthen its market leadership as demand for insurance and risk management solutions continues to grow across the continent.
For Standard Bank, the transaction further demonstrates its commitment to facilitating investment that drives sustainable economic development while supporting businesses with innovative financing structures tailored to Africa’s evolving markets.
