JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s brightest young football stars will take centre stage this weekend as some of the country’s biggest clubs battle for honours at the 2026 Engen Knockout Challenge Johannesburg, promising three days of elite youth football and fierce competition.
Taking place at Wits Marks Park from 17 to 19 July, the Johannesburg leg of the prestigious tournament will once again live up to its reputation as the breeding ground for the nation’s future football legends under this year’s inspiring theme, “Where Diski Legends Start.”
Following Tuesday’s official draw at Wits Sport, anticipation is building for what promises to be one of the most competitive editions of the tournament, featuring powerhouse clubs, rising academies and several exciting new storylines.

The Boys Under-18 competition brings together an impressive lineup of South Africa’s football giants, with defending champions Panorama FC facing intense competition from Premier Soccer League heavyweights including Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, TS Galaxy FC, Highlands Park FC and Siwelele FC.
With every team chasing the coveted Johannesburg title, supporters can expect high-intensity encounters showcasing the country’s next generation of professional footballers.
For many participants, the tournament represents more than silverware—it offers a vital opportunity to impress scouts, coaches and professional clubs while taking another step towards fulfilling their football dreams.
Historic Debut for Kaizer Chiefs Ladies
One of the tournament’s biggest talking points will be the highly anticipated debut of Kaizer Chiefs Ladies, who will make their first-ever appearance in the Engen Knockout Challenge following the launch of the club’s women’s football programme earlier this year.
Their arrival adds even greater excitement to an already competitive Girls Under-20 competition.
The Glamour Girls will compete alongside defending champions University of Johannesburg, as well as perennial contenders Mamelodi Sundowns FC, TS Galaxy Queens, SAFA Academy, University of Pretoria, JVW FC, Wits Ladies and several other talented teams.
The tournament is expected to provide another showcase of the remarkable growth of women’s football in South Africa, with many future national team stars likely to emerge over the weekend.

Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper and Engen Knockout Challenge ambassador Brighton Mhlongo believes the Johannesburg tournament continues to play a crucial role in developing South African football.
