JOHANNESBURG — Two sneaker enthusiasts, one coveted crown and a R200,000 sneaker vault. South Africa’s sneaker culture is gearing up for a high-stakes showdown as Russian Bear Vodka and YFM prepare to crown the King of Kicks 2026.
After weeks of sneaker battles, weekly vault drops and challenges testing their knowledge of the culture, finalists Angel Mosiamedi and Nonkosi Paul will go head-to-head at Atlas Studios in Johannesburg on 21 October 2026.
The finale will bring the competition to its climax, with the winner earning the title of Russian Bear King of Kicks 2026 and the opportunity to unlock a sneaker vault packed with some of the year’s most coveted footwear.
The vault is loaded, and the stakes are high
Since the competition launched, King of Kicks has kept sneakerheads across Mzansi talking through weekly additions to its growing collection.
Each vault drop has brought new sneakers into the spotlight, fuelling debate among fans and celebrating the knowledge, personal taste and passion that underpin sneaker culture.
From highly sought-after releases to collectible designs and statement-making silhouettes, the vault has evolved into more than a prize. It has become a showcase of the individuality and cultural significance attached to sneakers.
Now, Mosiamedi and Paul face the final challenge, where their knowledge and competitive instincts will be put to the test for a prize valued at R200,000.
With just one crown available, the finale promises to be a defining moment for both contestants.
More than sneakers: a culture of self-expression
For Russian Bear, King of Kicks is designed to celebrate the people and communities behind sneaker culture, recognising footwear as a powerful expression of identity, confidence and individual style.
Through its partnership with YFM, the brand has brought the competition to audiences through on-air conversations, challenges and the evolving sneaker vault, keeping listeners involved throughout the campaign.
Siviwe Mgolodela, Senior Brand Manager at Russian Bear, said the journey had been about the community as much as the footwear.
“This year’s King of Kicks journey has been about much more than the sneakers themselves. It’s about the people, the passion and the culture behind every pair.”
Mgolodela said both finalists had battled their way through weeks of competition to earn their places in the final.
“Angel and Nonkosi have battled their way through weeks of competition, and now it all comes down to one final night. We’re excited to bring them, the sneaker community and our partners at YFM together for a finale that will celebrate everything that makes sneaker culture so powerful.”
Johannesburg prepares for the ultimate showdown
The choice of Atlas Studios as the venue for the finale sets the stage for a celebration of sneaker culture, bringing the finalists, the competition’s partners and the wider community together for the decisive encounter.
For Mosiamedi and Paul, the mission is clear: turn weeks of preparation into a winning performance and claim one of the most coveted prizes in South Africa’s sneaker scene.
For the sneaker community, the event represents the culmination of a campaign built around the passion, knowledge and conversations that keep the culture moving.
As the countdown continues, one question remains: who has what it takes to take the crown?
On 21 October, the vault will have its final challenger, and one finalist will emerge as the Russian Bear King of Kicks 2026.
Two finalists. R200,000 worth of sneakers. One crown. Only one can rule the kicks.
