DURBAN — The Elite Women’s field for the Boxer Super Run Durban is gathering serious momentum, with Boxer Athletics Club standouts Karabo More and Kayla Jacobs confirmed to line up for the fast-paced 5km showdown on Sunday, 18 October 2026.

The pair add experience, ambition and proven form to a field expected to deliver a fiercely contested race when thousands of runners descend on Durban for one of South Africa’s most distinctive 5km events.

For More, the race carries an added significance. The Pretoria-based athlete knows exactly what it takes to win the Boxer Super Run, having claimed first place in the Elite Women’s Wave in 2024.

More Returns with Winning Experience

More’s previous victory provides valuable experience heading into this year’s contest, but the athlete says she is approaching the 2026 race as a new challenge.

“My victory in 2024 will always be an important part of my journey because it showed me what I’m capable of. At the same time, I know every race is different.”

More believes the event’s fast and flat course plays to her strengths, particularly her ability to maintain a strong and consistent pace.

“My main goal is to execute the race well, stay composed mentally, trust my preparation and give everything I have from the start to the finish.”

Beyond the competition itself, More says the Boxer Super Run’s unique appeal lies in its ability to bring elite athletes and recreational runners together on the same race platform.

“The Boxer Super Run has created a platform where elite athletes and everyday runners can share the same start line, and that makes it really special.”

She also expects the Durban atmosphere to contribute to the occasion, describing the energy surrounding the event as something that begins long before the starting gun.

Jacobs Brings Speed and Renewed Fitness

Joining More is Kayla Jacobs, who returns to the Boxer Super Run Durban after making her debut at the event in 2025.

The Somerset West athlete has a particular affinity for the distance, describing the 5km as her favourite event because of its demanding combination of speed and endurance.

“I enjoy racing over 5km because it’s a great mix of speed and endurance. I enjoy that the race is intense and can also be tactical.”

Jacobs also understands the unforgiving nature of the distance, where a small lapse in concentration can have a significant impact.

“The challenge is that it’s so short: if you lose focus for even a second or lose contact with the group, there’s very little time to recover.”

Her return comes after a period of significant personal and athletic transition. Following injury and pregnancy, Jacobs says she has made encouraging progress during the season, recording personal bests on the track as well as a new 10km PB.

The Durban race will provide another opportunity to measure that progress over a distance she particularly enjoys.

“I’m excited to put my speed and fitness to the test on a fast, flat course.”

With prize money also on the line, Jacobs has set her sights on delivering a strong performance.

“A podium finish and a new PB would make it a successful day.”

R147,200 Prize Purse Raises the Stakes

The competitive intensity will be reinforced by a combined prize purse of R147,200, distributed across the Elite and Open Wave categories.

The top eight men and women in the Elite Race will earn prize money, with R20,000 awarded to each winner.

The Open Wave will also offer prize money, with the top three men and women in each age category—from Junior through to the 70+ category—eligible for awards.

The structure ensures that the event caters to athletes across the competitive spectrum, from elite performers chasing victory to recreational runners competing for their own personal milestones.

Durban Ready for a Fast 5km

Stillwater Sports Managing Director Michael Meyer believes the addition of More and Jacobs further strengthens what is shaping up to be a highly competitive Elite Women’s Race.

“Karabo and Kayla bring plenty of experience and ambition to what is shaping up to be a highly competitive Elite Women’s Race.”

Meyer highlighted More’s previous success and Jacobs’ familiarity with the event as factors that will add further intrigue to the contest.

“Karabo knows what it takes to win the Boxer Super Run Durban, while Kayla has already experienced the unique energy of the event.”

Boxer Superstores Head of Marketing Lee-Ann Pillay also welcomed the return of the two athletes in Boxer Athletics Club colours, emphasising the distinctive character of the event.

“What makes the Boxer Super Run so special is that our elite athletes share the same event with thousands of runners who are there simply to enjoy themselves, challenge their own limits and be part of the experience.”

That combination of elite competition and mass participation remains central to the identity of the Boxer Super Run.
