Kaizer Chiefs brought an end to their recent run of disappointing results after securing a narrow but crucial victory over Durban City in a tightly contested match.
The win provided a much-needed boost for the Soweto giants, who had endured a difficult spell in recent fixtures. Determined to regain momentum, Chiefs delivered a disciplined performance to edge their hosts in a match that demanded patience, defensive organisation and clinical finishing.
Determined Response from Amakhosi
From the opening whistle, Kaizer Chiefs looked intent on ending their losing streak, applying early pressure and controlling large spells of possession. Their persistence eventually paid off when a well-worked attacking move produced the decisive goal that separated the two sides.
Despite the setback, Durban City continued to push forward in search of an equaliser, forcing Chiefs’ defence to remain alert throughout the match.
Chiefs’ players maintained their composure in the closing stages, successfully protecting their lead to secure all three points.
Coach Praises Team’s Character
Speaking after the match, the Kaizer Chiefs coach praised the team’s determination and resilience.
“It was important for us to respond after the results we have had recently,” he said. “The players showed character tonight. They stayed focused on the game plan and worked very hard for this result.”
He added that the victory could provide the momentum needed as the team looks to rebuild confidence for the remainder of the season.
“Sometimes football is about grinding out results. This win is important because it reminds the players of what they are capable of.”
Durban City Reflect on Missed Opportunities
Meanwhile, the Durban City camp acknowledged that the match was decided by fine margins.
A club representative noted that the team created opportunities but lacked the finishing touch required to convert them into goals.
“We had moments where we could have changed the game, but at this level you must take your chances,” he said. “The players worked hard and showed commitment, but we will need to be more clinical in front of goal.”
A Confidence-Boosting Result
For Kaizer Chiefs, the victory not only ended their losing run but also restored a measure of confidence within the squad.
With the season entering a crucial phase, the Soweto club will hope the result marks a turning point as they look to climb the standings and deliver more consistent performances in the weeks ahead.
