Ekurhuleni – A tragic head-on collision between two vehicles in Bredell has left one infant dead and several others seriously injured, prompting a full emergency response and temporary road closure on 9th Road.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene shortly after midday following reports of a severe crash involving a Toyota Quantum minibus carrying 15 occupants and a Nissan Hardbody double cab with three occupants.
According to William Ntladi, spokesperson for emergency services, a total of 18 patients were accounted for at the scene.
“One fatality was confirmed—a six-week-old toddler. Five patients sustained critical injuries, including both drivers, while 11 others were found to be in serious but stable condition,” Ntladi said.

Emergency Response and Road Closure
All injured patients were stabilised on-site before being transported by ambulance to various medical facilities across Ekurhuleni for further treatment.
The severity of the crash necessitated the temporary closure of 9th Road in Bredell, as emergency personnel worked to clear the wreckage and secure the area.
Suspected Cause Under Investigation
Preliminary reports indicate that the collision was a head-on impact, although the exact cause remains under investigation. Authorities are expected to examine factors such as road conditions, vehicle speed and driver behaviour.
