This Nelson Mandela Day, Friday, July 18, the Lyric Theatre will be transformed into a vibrant celebration of musical heritage as it hosts “Road to Bassline Fest Presents: History of House.” This exceptional event marks a historic collaboration between two of South Africa’s most influential musical talents: MÖRDA and the Soweto Gospel Choir.

The concert promises to deliver an exhilarating fusion of Afro house, Amapiano, gospel, and timeless house classics, creating a unique experience that transcends genres and generations. “We can’t wait to showcase our take on these evergreen house classics, especially doing this on stage with MÖRDA for the first time,” enthuses Shimmy Jiyane, the esteemed leader of the Soweto Gospel Choir.

Fresh from successful tours across Australasia, this will be their first South African performance of the much-acclaimed “History of House” album, a refreshing reimagining of house standards beautifully rendered in South African languages. Fans can look forward to stirring renditions of classics such as “Silence” and “Ride Like the Wind,” both produced by the talented duo Groove Terminator and Latroit.

Joining forces with them is the dynamic MÖRDA, known for his groundbreaking work as a member of the celebrated group Black Motion. His innovative soundscapes and electrifying live performances are set to elevate the experience. Audiences will be treated to beloved hits from his acclaimed “Asante” trilogy, including the powerful new single “Glory,” featuring the remarkable vocals of Nomfundo Moh and Nontokozo Mkhize.
