JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s gospel music calendar is preparing for one of its most anticipated events of the year as Gospel Music Spotlight 2026 returns with an inspiring celebration of worship, musical excellence and emerging talent.
Founded by celebrated gospel icon Jabu Hlongwane, the acclaimed production has grown into one of the country’s premier gospel showcases, earning a reputation for bringing together legendary performers while providing a national platform for the next generation of gospel artists.
Following four successful years since its debut in Bloemfontein, this year’s edition promises an unforgettable evening of praise, worship and inspiration on Saturday, 3 October 2026, with audiences gathering at Emperors Palace from 17:00.
A Celebration of Gospel Excellence
Guided by its powerful theme, “Platforming the Gifted,” Gospel Music Spotlight has become much more than a concert.
It has evolved into a platform dedicated to discovering and nurturing South Africa’s emerging gospel talent while celebrating the artists who have shaped the country’s rich gospel music heritage.
This year’s production features an impressive lineup of acclaimed performers representing diverse gospel traditions and musical styles.
Among the headline acts are former Idols South Africa winner Khaya Mthethwa, award-winning worship leader Sindi Ntombela, Mpumi Mtsweni, Mnqobi Nxumalo, Nozipho Phiri, renowned for her deeply rooted traditional gospel ministry, and Xolisa Kwinana, whose stirring renditions of Xhosa hymns continue to captivate audiences nationwide.
Fans of Sefela music will also be treated to performances by Kgethang Konese and Keke Phofolo.
Leading the legends’ lineup will be gospel pioneer Jabu Hlongwane, alongside celebrated artists Mthunzi Namba and the much-loved Hlengiwe Mhlaba, whose music has inspired millions across South Africa and beyond.
Discovering Tomorrow’s Gospel Stars
One of the defining features of Gospel Music Spotlight remains its commitment to introducing fresh voices to the national stage.
Each year, previously undiscovered artists are unveiled during the event, offering audiences the opportunity to witness emerging talent before they become household names.
Organisers believe this year’s group of Spotlight Artists represents the strongest lineup yet, reflecting the remarkable growth and depth of South Africa’s gospel music industry.
Their performances are expected to add excitement and authenticity to an evening already filled with celebrated musical excellence.
A Message of Hope
Beyond its impressive musical programme, Gospel Music Spotlight arrives at a time when many communities continue to face significant social and economic challenges.
Against a backdrop of financial uncertainty, conflict, violence and emotional strain, organisers say the event aims to provide more than entertainment.
It seeks to create a space where people from all walks of life can gather in worship, celebrate faith and leave with renewed hope.
The evening promises a powerful journey through praise and worship designed to uplift audiences spiritually while reminding them of gospel music’s enduring ability to heal, inspire and unite.
Celebrating South Africa’s Gospel Renaissance
The event also reflects the continued rise of gospel music as one of South Africa’s most influential musical genres.
Year after year, the industry continues to produce exceptional vocalists, songwriters and worship leaders whose music resonates across cultures, languages and generations.
Presented by CrossPower Media in partnership with Ru Nick Jonas Productions, Gospel Music Spotlight celebrates this flourishing creative landscape while ensuring new talent receives the exposure needed to build sustainable careers.
By bringing together established legends and emerging artists on one stage, the production continues to strengthen the future of South African gospel music.
More Than a Concert
For many attendees, Gospel Music Spotlight represents far more than an evening of live performances.
It offers an opportunity to reconnect—with faith, family, community and purpose—through music that transcends entertainment and speaks directly to the soul.
As the countdown begins to 3 October, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be one of the country’s most uplifting musical events of 2026.
With legendary performers, exciting new voices and an atmosphere of worship and celebration, Gospel Music Spotlight is once again poised to remind audiences why gospel music remains one of South Africa’s most powerful expressions of hope, unity and inspiration.
