Marumo Gallants booked their place in the next round of the Carling Knockout Cup after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday evening. The match ended in a 1–1 draw after regulation time before Gallants held their nerve from the spot to secure a memorable win.

Ndlondlo the Star of the Show
Midfield maestro Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo produced a man-of-the-match performance, dictating play with his trademark energy and creativity. His tireless runs and precise passing troubled the Arrows midfield throughout the encounter. Ndlondlo also scored a crucial penalty during the shootout, further cementing his status as Gallants’ talisman.

How the Match Unfolded
Golden Arrows opened the scoring midway through the first half through a well-placed strike by Knox Mutizwa, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Gallants. However, Gallants responded strongly after the break, with Celimpilo Ngema finding the equalizer in the 68th minute following a slick team move orchestrated by Ndlondlo.

Both sides created chances late on, but goalkeepers Washington Arubi and Sifiso Mlungwana produced excellent saves to keep the game level, forcing the match to be decided by penalties.

Penalty Drama
In the tense shootout, Gallants converted all their spot-kicks, while Arubi’s heroics denied Arrows twice, sealing a 4–2 victory for the Limpopo-based side.

What’s Next
Marumo Gallants now advance to the Carling Knockout quarterfinals, where they’ll look to continue their impressive cup form. For Golden Arrows, the defeat marks another disappointing exit in a tournament they’ve yet to conquer.
