Cape Town – Zimbabwean long-distance star Fortune Chidzivo is set to make a highly anticipated return to the Totalsports Two Oceans Half Marathon powered by BYD on Sunday, 12 April 2026, with her sights firmly set on reclaiming gold at one of South Africa’s most iconic road races.

Competing in the event for the fourth time, Chidzivo arrives as one of the most experienced and accomplished athletes in the elite women’s field. The Zimbabwean record holder boasts a personal best of 1:10:50 over the half marathon distance and carries strong confidence following a solid build-up to the race.

Confident Build-Up

Chidzivo says her preparations have gone according to plan, despite the demanding nature of the Cape Town course.

“So far, I don’t have any complaints. The preparations for the race have been going well,” she said.
“I always find the route tough, especially in the first half. I’m lucky that my coach, Edwin Chimombo, has run the course, which makes it easier for me to prepare.”

The race is known for its challenging profile, particularly the 2km climb up Southern Cross Drive, a section that often proves decisive in shaping the outcome of the 21km contest.

A Proven Champion

Now 39, Chidzivo returns to familiar territory with an impressive record at the event. In her three previous appearances, she has secured two gold medals, including a memorable victory in 2022, where she crossed the finish line in 1:14:48.

That triumph remains one of the defining moments of her career.

“That win came unexpectedly. It was one of my biggest wins. The joy I experienced felt like I flew up to the sky and back,” she recalled.
“It was also special to see my husband waiting at the finish line to welcome me.”

Strong Form Heading into 2026

Chidzivo heads into the race in excellent form, having won three races from three starts in 2026, including victories at the HAC Nyaradzo Memorial Run 10km, the Old Mutual Harare Marathon 21km, and the CBZ Marathon 21km.

Despite her winning streak, she remains grounded in her approach.

“A positive mindset is crucial as winning starts with positivity. Having won the race before will be a driving force, but I’m going without expectations,” she said.
“I just want to enjoy being back on the start line. The stronger the competition, the better the times we will run. Let’s see if I can rewrite history.”

Organisers Welcome Her Return

Race organisers have welcomed Chidzivo’s return, noting that her presence adds depth and excitement to the elite field.

Chris Goldschmidt, Chairperson of the Two Oceans Marathon NPC, praised the Zimbabwean athlete’s pedigree.

“She is an exceptional athlete whose achievements have earned her great respect in the global road running community. Having previously claimed victory here, her return adds tremendous excitement to the elite women’s field.”

Wade Bromfield, General Manager of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon powered by BYD, echoed the sentiment.

“Fortune Chidzivo’s return is fantastic news for the event and for road running fans. Athletes of her calibre always elevate the level of competition.”

A Highlight of the Race Weekend

The Half Marathon forms part of the broader Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon powered by BYD programme in Cape Town, which includes:

With a combined prize purse of R2.6 million in 2026, including R422,600 allocated to the Half Marathon, the race continues to attract top-tier international and local talent.

As she prepares to return to the start line, Fortune Chidzivo carries both experience and momentum—factors that could prove decisive as she aims to once again stand atop the podium in Cape Town.
