Johannesburg, 31 March 2026 – South Africa’s social grant recipients are set to receive their payments for April 2026, with clear payment schedules and updated grant amounts designed to provide continued support for millions of households.

Payment Schedule for April 2026

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the following payment dates:

  • Older Persons Grant: Thursday, 2 April 2026
    • Beneficiaries receiving linked children’s grants (Child Support Grant and Foster Care Grant) will also access these on the same day.
  • Disability Grants: Tuesday, 7 April 2026
    • Includes any linked grants to the account.
  • All other grants: Wednesday, 8 April 2026

SASSA advises beneficiaries to plan accordingly and to collect grants on the scheduled dates to avoid unnecessary delays.

Social Grant Increases

From April 2026, social grant amounts will increase as follows:

  • Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, Care Dependency Grant: R2 400 (increase of R80)
  • War Veterans Grant: R2 420 (increase of R80)
  • Foster Care Grant: R1 290 (increase of R40)
  • Child Support Grant & Grant-In-Aid: R580 (increase of R20)
  • COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD): Remains unchanged for the year ahead

These increases aim to help beneficiaries cope with rising living costs and support basic household needs.

Flexible Payment Options

Beneficiaries now have the option to open bank accounts with financial institutions of their choice. This provides greater control over their funds and ease of access.

  • The SASSA/SAPO card continues to function as a debit card at ATMs and at major retailers, including SPAR, Checkers, Shoprite, Boxer, Pick n Pay, Cambridge, and more.
  • Recipients are encouraged to explore banking options that best suit their needs while maintaining convenient access to funds.

Security Reminder

SASSA reminds beneficiaries to:

  • Keep their card and PIN secure at all times
  • Never share their PIN with anyone
  • Visit their nearest SASSA office if payment was not received on the scheduled date, as accounts may require review

Supporting Millions Across South Africa

These payments form a critical lifeline for many South African households, helping older persons, caregivers, children, and persons with disabilities manage daily expenses and maintain financial stability.

With the scheduled increases and continued support from SASSA, beneficiaries can look forward to a smoother, more reliable social grant experience this April.
