TEMBISA, GAUTENG – Gauteng MEC for Finance and Economic Development, Nkululeko Dunga, conducted an oversight visit to Tembisa, reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to accountable governance, responsive service delivery and inclusive economic development.
The visit formed part of the Gauteng Provincial Government’s ongoing programme to monitor service delivery, engage directly with communities and assess the implementation of government programmes aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
During the oversight visit, Dunga met with community members, local leaders and relevant stakeholders to gain first-hand insight into the challenges facing residents. Discussions focused on key issues including infrastructure development, municipal services, economic opportunities, public facilities and the need for improved coordination between government departments.
Addressing residents, Dunga emphasised that effective governance begins with listening to communities and ensuring that public resources deliver meaningful impact.

“Our responsibility as government is to remain present within our communities, understand their challenges and ensure that every public investment translates into improved services and opportunities for our people,” he said.
The MEC also stressed the importance of accountability and transparency in the delivery of public services, noting that oversight visits provide government with an opportunity to identify implementation gaps while working with relevant departments to accelerate solutions.
Residents used the engagement to raise concerns relating to roads, sanitation, housing, public infrastructure, waste management, unemployment and youth development. They also called for greater investment in local economic initiatives capable of creating sustainable employment opportunities.
Dunga reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to driving inclusive economic growth while strengthening service delivery across Gauteng.
“As government, we remain committed to building communities where people have access to quality services, economic opportunities and an environment that supports growth and development. Oversight visits such as these enable us to engage directly with residents and ensure that their voices shape government interventions,” he said.

The visit also allowed officials to assess progress on existing development initiatives and identify areas requiring urgent intervention. Matters raised during the engagement are expected to inform future planning, resource allocation and collaboration between provincial departments and local government.
Community leaders welcomed the MEC’s engagement, describing direct interaction between government and residents as an important step towards improving accountability and ensuring that service delivery challenges receive the necessary attention.
The oversight visit concluded with a commitment to continued engagement and follow-up interventions aimed at accelerating development projects, strengthening municipal performance and improving the lives of Tembisa residents.
