South Africa’s low-cost carrier FlySafair is ramping up capacity on one of Southern Africa’s busiest regional routes, announcing a second daily return flight between O. R. Tambo International Airport and Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport for the upcoming Easter peak travel period.

The additional Johannesburg–Harare rotation will operate from March 27 to April 7, 2026, responding to heightened seasonal demand as travellers move between Johannesburg and Harare for holidays, business commitments, and family visits.

Meeting Peak Travel Demand

The Johannesburg–Harare corridor has consistently ranked among the most active regional routes in Southern Africa, particularly during major holiday periods such as Easter. By introducing a second daily frequency, FlySafair is effectively doubling its capacity on the route during this window—offering passengers more flexibility in departure times and improved access to seats.

Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair, emphasised the strategic timing of the move, noting that demand surges significantly during peak travel cycles. The additional rotation is designed to ease pressure on availability while maintaining the airline’s competitive pricing model.

Competitive Fares and Booking Access

Tickets for the expanded service are already available, with one-way fares starting from R1,663 from Johannesburg and R2,046 from Harare. These price points position FlySafair competitively within the regional market, particularly for cost-conscious travellers planning short-haul trips.

Bookings can be made through the airline’s official website or via the FlySafair mobile app, with travellers encouraged to secure seats early as demand is expected to rise sharply closer to departure dates.

Strengthening Regional Connectivity

The temporary schedule enhancement will run alongside FlySafair’s existing daily service, significantly increasing seat availability between South Africa and Zimbabwe. This move not only supports leisure travel but also facilitates business mobility and cross-border family connections—key drivers of traffic on this route.

For many travellers, particularly those visiting relatives over the Easter period, increased frequency translates into more convenient itineraries and reduced risk of fully booked flights.

A Timely Boost for Holiday Travel

As the Easter travel season approaches, airlines across the region are adjusting capacity to accommodate increased passenger volumes. FlySafair’s decision to scale up operations on the Johannesburg–Harare route reflects both market demand and broader recovery trends in regional air travel.

With expanded options, competitive fares, and a limited booking window, the additional flights are expected to play a crucial role in easing congestion and enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers during one of the busiest periods on the calendar.

Fares are subject to availability and may change. Advertised prices apply to travel between March 27 and April 7, 2026.
