The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is set to transform Pretoria into a high-energy hub of sport and entertainment as it unveils a dynamic lineup of artists and performers for the 2026 Kalahari Conference. Scheduled to take place at the SunBet Arena from March 27 to April 5, the tournament promises not just elite basketball, but a fully immersive cultural experience.

The BAL continues to distinguish itself as more than just a sporting competition—blending Africa’s top basketball talent with a vibrant showcase of music, dance, and performance art. Headlining the opening ceremony is Amapiano sensation Young Stunna, who will set the tone on Friday evening before fans are treated to a clash between Dar City (Tanzania) and Johannesburg Giants.

Throughout the nine-day conference, halftime shows will feature a diverse roster of entertainers. Dancefloor favorite Kamo Mphela and rising star Scotts Maphuma further reinforce the strong local flavor.

Adding an international edge, performances by Usimamane and Toss will keep fans engaged between intense matchups. Complementing the musical acts are visually striking acrobatic and theatrical showcases curated by Everywhen Experiences, including aerial silks, trampoline acts, unicycle stunts, and aerial hammock performances—ensuring every halftime break is a spectacle in its own right.

On the court, the Kalahari Conference features a competitive mix of Africa’s elite clubs. Angolan powerhouse Petro de Luanda, Libyan giants Al Ahly Ly, and Rwanda’s RSSB Tigers will battle it out alongside home favorites Johannesburg Giants and Kenya’s Nairobi City Thunder.

With playoff qualification on the line, each game carries significant weight. The top teams from the Kalahari Conference will advance to the BAL Playoffs in Kigali from May 22 to May 31, where Africa’s ultimate club champion will be crowned.

Beyond the Court: The BAL Fan Experience

Fans attending the games can expect more than just basketball. The BAL Fan Zone at SunBet Arena will offer a festival-like atmosphere, complete with official merchandise, curated food and beverage options, and live DJ sets—creating a social and lifestyle destination for supporters of all ages.

This holistic approach underscores the BAL’s mission to redefine the sports entertainment landscape across the continent. Backed by a partnership between the International Basketball Federation and NBA Africa, the league continues to elevate African basketball onto a global stage.

A Continental Stage

The Kalahari Conference marks the opening chapter of the BAL’s sixth season, which will also see the Sahara Conference hosted in Morocco from April 24 to May 3. The top eight teams across both conferences will then converge in Kigali for the playoffs, culminating in what is expected to be a fiercely contested finale.

As Pretoria prepares to host this fusion of sport, music, and culture, the 2026 BAL season is shaping up to be a landmark moment—not just for basketball, but for African entertainment as a whole.
