The Deputy Minister of Social Development, Ganief Hendricks, is set to spearhead a major community-driven service delivery initiative in Gauteng as part of government’s ongoing commitment to accessible and inclusive social support.

The Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) will take place on Friday, 27 March 2026, at the Mohlakeng Old Age Home, bringing a wide range of essential services directly to residents of the West Rand.

Bringing Services Closer to Communities

ICROP, a flagship initiative of the South African Social Security Agency, is designed to bridge the gap between government services and underserved communities. By decentralising access points, the programme reduces the burden of travel costs and long queues, ensuring that vulnerable citizens receive timely assistance.

The outreach reflects a coordinated effort led by the Department of Social Development, working alongside multiple government stakeholders to deliver integrated, people-centred services on-site.

A Human Rights Month Focus

The initiative forms part of South Africa’s Human Rights Month commemorations, reinforcing the state’s constitutional mandate to uphold dignity, equality, and access to social protection.

Particular emphasis will be placed on supporting vulnerable groups, including older persons, children, and individuals living with disabilities. The presence of senior leadership and interdepartmental partners signals a unified approach to strengthening the country’s social safety net.

Comprehensive On-Site Services

Residents attending the outreach will have access to a broad spectrum of services, including:

  • Social grant applications and benefit enquiries
  • Assistance with birth certificates and identity documentation
  • Support services for victims of gender-based violence and substance abuse
  • Professional social work interventions and referrals
  • Development support through the National Development Agency

In addition, key institutions such as the Department of Health, Independent Electoral Commission, Government Communication and Information System, Public Protector South Africa, and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) will be on hand to provide further assistance.

Community Engagement at the Core

The programme will begin with a direct engagement session, allowing community members to interact with Deputy Minister Hendricks and government representatives. This platform is expected to foster dialogue, surface local challenges, and ensure that policy interventions remain grounded in lived realities.

The Deputy Minister will be joined by senior management from both the Department of Social Development and SASSA, alongside representatives from national, provincial, and local government—underscoring a collaborative, whole-of-government approach.

Empowering Residents Through Access

Residents are encouraged to bring their identity documents and any relevant supporting paperwork to maximise the benefits of the outreach. With services consolidated in one location, ICROP aims to streamline administrative processes while restoring dignity and convenience to service delivery.

As South Africa continues to confront socio-economic challenges, initiatives such as ICROP highlight the importance of responsive governance—ensuring that no community is left behind.
