JOHANNESBURG, 9 OCTOBER 2026 — Twenty-five years after David Beckham delivered one of the most memorable free kicks in football history, adidas is commemorating the moment with a special-edition Predator boot inspired by the strike that helped send England to the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Unveiled on the anniversary of Beckham’s unforgettable free kick against Greece on 6 October 2001, the David Beckham Predator blends football nostalgia, premium craftsmanship and modern performance technology in a tribute to a defining moment in the former England captain’s career.
The release also celebrates the enduring legacy of the adidas Predator, a boot franchise closely associated with precision, control and some of football’s most iconic moments.
A free kick that became football history
Beckham’s last-minute free kick against Greece remains one of the defining highlights of his international career. With England’s World Cup qualification hanging in the balance, his perfectly executed strike secured the result needed to send the national team to the 2002 tournament in Japan and South Korea.
The goal elevated Beckham’s reputation as a player capable of delivering under extraordinary pressure and cemented the strike’s place in the history of the Predator franchise.
For adidas, the anniversary offers an opportunity to revisit the moment through a boot that draws directly from the design worn by Beckham that day.
Sam Handy, General Manager of adidas Football, said the strike captured the qualities that have defined both the player and the Predator range.
“Few moments in football history capture the spirit of Predator quite like David Beckham’s free kick against Greece. It showcased the precision, confidence and control that have defined both Beckham’s legacy and the Predator franchise for more than three decades.”
Handy said the special edition was designed to honour that legacy through a combination of football heritage, craftsmanship and modern performance innovation.

Classic white and red, reimagined
The new David Beckham Predator takes its visual cues from the white-and-red colourway associated with the original moment, bringing a familiar football aesthetic into a contemporary design.
A standout feature is the return of the Trefoil logo, marking only the second time the emblem has appeared in Predator history. It previously featured on Beckham’s debut special-edition Predator release in 2024, which sold out within 24 hours, according to adidas.
The Trefoil creates a visual connection between adidas Originals and the Predator’s performance-driven football heritage, giving the anniversary boot a distinctive identity.
Additional personalised details include Beckham branding on the lateral heel and an embroidered Trefoil on the fold-over tongue. The lateral and medial Three Stripes also incorporate repeated Trefoil branding, adding a subtle premium finish.
The result is a design that pays homage to an unforgettable football moment while appealing to players, collectors and fans of classic adidas footwear.
Traditional leather meets modern performance
Beyond its appearance, the David Beckham Predator combines traditional boot-making elements with contemporary performance technology.
Inspired by adidas’ Predator Elite FT L-Tech concept, the boot features a premium leather forefoot designed to provide the soft touch and comfort associated with traditional leather football boots, while retaining the lightweight support and performance features of a modern Predator.
The signature fold-over tongue, finished in rich red leather, reinforces the boot’s classic aesthetic.
This blend of heritage and innovation reflects the wider evolution of football footwear, where traditional materials and iconic silhouettes continue to influence products designed for the demands of the modern game.

The Predator Precision returns
Alongside the new David Beckham Predator, adidas is releasing the Predator Precision Remade, a reimagined version of the boot Beckham wore during the historic qualifying match.
Returning in the recognisable white-and-red colourway, the remade Precision offers a direct visual link to the 2001 free kick.
The release broadens the appeal of the anniversary collection, giving a new generation of players and long-time collectors an opportunity to connect with a defining chapter in football history.
Together, the two boots celebrate not only Beckham’s achievement, but also the role of iconic footwear in the stories, memories and moments that shape the global game.
A legacy that continues to inspire
Few pieces of football equipment have maintained the Predator’s cultural presence across generations. Its association with precision, control and iconic players has helped establish it as one of adidas’ most recognisable football franchises.
The Beckham anniversary release builds on that history by linking a specific, unforgettable sporting achievement with a design language that remains relevant to contemporary football and streetwear culture.
For supporters who remember the drama of 6 October 2001, the boots evoke a moment when one strike carried the weight of a nation’s World Cup hopes. For younger players, they offer a connection to a legendary player and an era that continues to influence the game.
The David Beckham Predator and Predator Precision Remade are available from 9 October 2026 through selected adidas retail stores and adidas.co.za.
Twenty-five years on, Beckham’s free kick remains etched in football history. Now, adidas is giving that moment a new life — one iconic boot at a time.
