Johannesburg – Vodacom Group has once again secured its position as Africa’s number one employer, earning the prestigious Top Employer Institute certification for the third consecutive year — a rare achievement that firmly places the telecommunications giant among the world’s most progressive, people-centric organisations.
The recognition not only reaffirms Vodacom Group’s leadership across the continent, but also establishes the company as a global benchmark for innovation, ethical technology adoption and human-centred workplace culture.
In addition to Vodacom Group’s continental top ranking, individual certifications were also awarded to Vodacom South Africa, Vodacom Mozambique, Vodacom Tanzania, and Safaricom Ethiopia and Kenya, highlighting the organisation’s consistent excellence across multiple markets.
A Milestone in Vision 2030
Vodacom Group Chief Executive Shameel Joosub described the achievement as a defining moment in the company’s long-term transformation journey.
“Being certified as Africa’s Top Employer for a third consecutive year marks an important milestone in our Vision 2030 journey. It is a testament to our people-centric approach, our commitment to talent development and our belief that purposeful leadership creates sustainable success,” Joosub said.
Near-Perfect Global Scores
Vodacom Group delivered an exceptional overall Top Employer score of 99.56%, placing it among the highest-rated employers globally. Vodacom Mozambique led the Group with a remarkable 99.96%, followed closely by Vodacom South Africa at 99.88%, and Vodacom Tanzania at 99.76%. Safaricom Ethiopia and Kenya both ranked first in their respective countries.
These near-perfect scores underscore Vodacom’s world-class Human Resources practices, measured across 20 critical HR domains, including People Strategy, Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, Leadership Capability, Employee Wellbeing, Performance Management, and Diversity and Inclusion.
Setting Global Benchmarks in Ethical AI and Innovation
This year’s evaluation placed significant emphasis on ethical leadership, innovation, and the human impact of artificial intelligence — and Vodacom emerged as a standout performer.
Two Vodacom South Africa initiatives were recognised as global best practices:
- Human-AI Collaboration Impact Evaluation, which continuously assesses the impact of AI on employees to ensure ethical, transparent and people-first implementation.
- Innovation and Creativity Empowerment, where employees are encouraged to experiment, innovate and collaborate through platforms such as hackathons, fostering a fearless culture of ideas.
Chief Human Resources Officer Matimba Mbungela said the recognition reflects Vodacom’s forward-thinking leadership philosophy.
“The future of work demands ethical technology adoption, human-centred leadership and innovation-driven cultures. We are proud to set the global standard in these areas while ensuring our people remain at the heart of everything we do.”
A Workplace Built on CARE
Vodacom’s Employee Value Proposition is rooted in Compassion, Acceptance, Respect and Empathy (C.A.R.E.) — principles that guide a comprehensive wellbeing strategy supporting employees through every stage of life. The organisation offers enhanced wellness initiatives, future-fit digital learning, leadership development programmes, and progressive family responsibility leave policies.
Building Africa’s Digital Future
Vodacom’s impact extends beyond its own workforce into the broader African technology ecosystem. Through initiatives such as the Vodacom Digital Skills Hub, CodeLikeAGirl, Discover Graduate and Spirit of Vodacom, the company is actively nurturing Africa’s next generation of STEM professionals, strengthening digital inclusion and expanding economic participation.
People-First, Future-Ready
“As we look ahead, Vodacom Group remains committed to building a workplace that inspires excellence, drives innovation and ensures ethical technology adoption that places people at the centre of everything we do,” Mbungela concluded.
With its third consecutive continental title, Vodacom is not merely Africa’s top employer — it is shaping the future of work across the globe.
