Johannesburg – The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that social grant payments will continue uninterrupted throughout 2026, providing essential financial relief to millions of South Africans who depend on monthly support.

As the cost of living continues to rise, SASSA has urged beneficiaries to remain informed about payment schedules, secure payment methods, and official communication channels to avoid delays or falling victim to scams.

When Will SASSA Pay Grants in 2026?

SASSA has maintained its standard monthly payment structure, with grants released in a staggered sequence to ensure efficiency and reduce congestion at pay points.

Standard Payment Order

  1. Older Persons Grant
  2. Disability Grant
  3. Children’s Grants and other social grants, including:
    • Child Support Grant
    • Foster Child Grant
    • Care Dependency Grant
    • Grant-in-Aid

SASSA has reiterated that official payment dates are released monthly and should only be confirmed through verified communication channels.

“Beneficiaries are urged to rely only on official SASSA communication platforms for payment dates and updates. We caution against misinformation circulating on social media,” SASSA said in a statement.

How Beneficiaries Will Receive Their Grants

SASSA continues to encourage beneficiaries to use secure and convenient payment methods, including:

  • Direct deposits into personal bank accounts
  • SASSA Gold Cards
  • Cash withdrawals at approved retailers, such as:
    • Shoprite
    • Checkers
    • Pick n Pay
    • Boxer

According to the Department of Social Development, direct bank deposits remain the safest option.

“Using a personal bank account reduces the risk of fraud and ensures beneficiaries receive their money on time, without long queues or unnecessary delays,” the department said.

Grant Amounts for 2026

Grant amounts are determined annually through the national budget process. Any increases or adjustments will be formally announced by:

  • The Minister of Social Development
  • National Treasury
  • SASSA

Beneficiaries are advised to be cautious of unofficial messages claiming early increases or special payouts.

Warning Against Scams and Fraud

SASSA has issued repeated warnings about scams targeting grant recipients, particularly through WhatsApp and SMS messages requesting personal details.

“SASSA will never ask beneficiaries to provide banking details or PINs via SMS, WhatsApp, or social media,” the agency warned. “Any such communication should be treated as fraudulent.”

Beneficiaries are encouraged to report suspicious activity to their nearest SASSA office or via official helplines.

What Beneficiaries Should Do in 2026

To ensure uninterrupted payments, SASSA advises beneficiaries to:

✔ Keep personal and banking details updated
✔ Protect their SASSA cards and PINs
✔ Avoid sharing personal information
✔ Report lost or stolen cards immediately
✔ Verify payment dates through official channels

SASSA Reaffirms Commitment to Social Protection

The Department of Social Development has reiterated its commitment to strengthening social protection systems amid ongoing economic pressures.

“Social grants remain a critical safety net for millions of South Africans. Our priority is to ensure that payments are made on time, securely, and with dignity,” the department said. SASSA continues to work closely with financial institutions and government departments to improve efficiency, reduce fraud, and expand access to social assistance.
