MS. TINTSWALO MAKEDA KHOZA – DRIVING TOURISM GROWTH IN LIMPOPO AND BEYOND

Ms. Tintswalo Makeda Khoza stands as a dynamic and influential figure in South Africa’s tourism sector, bringing vision, strategic leadership, and deep community commitment to every role she occupies. With a portfolio that spans local, regional, and provincial tourism leadership, she is at the forefront of shaping the future of the industry in Limpopo and its surrounding regions.

As Chairperson of the Makhado Tourism Association, Ms. Khoza champions the development and promotion of tourism in the Makhado Local Municipality. Her work is rooted in fostering collaborations between tourism stakeholders, local businesses, cultural institutions, and government to ensure that Makhado is not only a gateway to Limpopo’s attractions but also a hub for sustainable tourism growth. She has been instrumental in highlighting the region’s rich cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and unique hospitality offerings.

Her influence extends further as the Deputy Chairperson of the Vhembe Regional Tourism Organisation (VRTO), where she plays a critical role in driving tourism strategy for the Vhembe District. This position demands balancing the preservation of the region’s natural and cultural assets with innovative approaches to market its diverse attractions, from eco-tourism and adventure experiences to heritage sites and rural community tourism initiatives.

At a provincial level, Ms. Khoza serves as Deputy Secretary of the Limpopo Provincial Tourism Association (LPTA). In this role, she contributes to shaping policy advocacy, industry development, and coordinated marketing strategies that place Limpopo firmly on both the domestic and international tourism maps. Her work supports a unified vision for tourism in the province, encouraging alignment among districts and maximising opportunities for economic impact and job creation.

With her multi-tiered leadership roles, Ms. Khoza is uniquely positioned to bridge local communities with provincial and national tourism strategies. She is a strong advocate for inclusive growth, ensuring that tourism development benefits local entrepreneurs, particularly women and youth, while promoting responsible tourism practices that protect the environment and cultural heritage.

Beyond formal leadership, Ms. Khoza is recognised for her active engagement in tourism dialogues, conferences, and community forums. She continuously works to inspire a shared sense of ownership and pride among Limpopo’s residents in their tourism assets.

Her vision is clear: to see Limpopo emerge as one of Africa’s most sought-after tourism destinations, where visitors experience authentic culture, unmatched hospitality, and unforgettable landscapes — and where tourism acts as a catalyst for sustainable socio-economic transformation.
