JOHANNESBURG – Thousands of participants in this year’s 702 Walk the Talk experienced more than just a scenic walk through Johannesburg’s streets, thanks to Mazda South Africa, which transformed the route into a vibrant journey of creativity, discovery and human connection.
Guided by its “Wonderrrr Awaits” brand philosophy, Mazda created a series of immersive installations that invited walkers to pause, explore and engage with moments of joy along one of South Africa’s most iconic community events.
Rather than simply participating as an event partner, Mazda reimagined the walking route as a canvas for experiential storytelling, turning familiar city streets into spaces filled with surprise, reflection and interactive entertainment.
A journey of discovery
Participants encountered a variety of thoughtfully designed activation zones, each offering a unique sensory experience.
Among the highlights was a tranquil Japanese Garden, providing a peaceful retreat where walkers could pause, recharge and embrace the calm inspired by Japanese design and culture.
Elsewhere along the route, visitors stepped into the vibrant Colour World, an explosion of creativity and visual energy that celebrated optimism, diversity and self-expression.
Music lovers were treated to the elegant Grand Piano Experience, where the universal language of music created moments of inspiration and togetherness, while families and children delighted in the playful Bubble Field, transforming the streets into a whimsical landscape of floating bubbles, laughter and shared memories.
Each installation reflected Mazda’s commitment to creating meaningful experiences that go beyond mobility, encouraging people to embrace curiosity and appreciate the unexpected.

More than a sponsorship
Mazda South Africa’s activation demonstrated how experiential marketing can strengthen emotional connections between brands and communities.
Instead of traditional branding alone, the company focused on creating memorable moments that resonated with participants long after they crossed the finish line.
The immersive installations encouraged interaction, conversation and exploration, allowing walkers to experience Johannesburg from an entirely new perspective.
By blending art, music, nature and playfulness, Mazda successfully transformed ordinary public spaces into destinations filled with wonder and imagination.

Celebrating community through experience
The 702 Walk the Talk has long been recognised as a celebration of community, wellness and togetherness, bringing thousands of people onto Johannesburg’s streets each year.
Mazda’s creative contribution added another dimension to the event by reminding participants that life’s most memorable moments are often found in unexpected places.
The activation aligned perfectly with the spirit of the event—bringing people together while encouraging exploration, positivity and meaningful human connection.

Redefining brand storytelling
As consumers increasingly seek authentic experiences rather than traditional advertising, Mazda’s presence at the 702 Walk the Talk highlighted the growing role of experiential storytelling in modern brand engagement.
Through immersive environments that sparked emotion and participation, the company demonstrated how brands can create lasting impressions by becoming part of the experiences people treasure.
From peaceful reflection in the Japanese Garden to joyful laughter in the Bubble Field, Mazda transformed an already celebrated community event into an unforgettable journey of discovery.
In doing so, the automaker proved that sometimes the greatest adventures are not found in distant destinations, but in rediscovering the familiar through a fresh perspective—where, true to its philosophy, wonder truly awaits.
