The celebrated Jozi Kota Festival, renowned for its vibrant kasie culture, is gearing up for a spectacular comeback. Set to take place on October 4, 2025, at the iconic FNB Stadium precinct in Johannesburg, this year’s festival promises to be bigger and better, boasting a diverse array of new and established sponsors, partners, and collaborations.
After successfully traversing to Cape Town and other destinations, the Joburg leg of the year-long festival will showcase an exciting range of traditional and gourmet kota vendors, reflecting the heart and soul of South African culinary creativity. With a target attendance of more than 15,000, the festival aims to boost not only the local economy but also to highlight the artistic flair that defines Kota cuisine.
Supported proudly by Albany and accompanied by major sponsors such as Clover, Thomson Meats, and Sunfoil, the Jozi Kota Festival reinforces its reputation as a premier platform for culinary innovation and a celebration of small business exposure. As articulated by the festival’s project manager, Buyisile Nkosi, the festival embodies the cultural and economic significance of township food traditions.
Launching the festival at the Soccer City precinct earlier this week, Nkosi addressed a gathering of enthusiastic kota vendors and aspiring entrepreneurs, articulating new guidelines designed to elevate the standards of offerings at the festival. “This time around, we will not allow anyone to just do as they wish. Those who sell cold drinks will not be allowed to sell anything else, and those who sell kotas will not be allowed to sell cold drinks. It is as simple as that,” she quipped. The festival’s commitment to excellence echoes its mission to highlight the vibrant stories rooted in Kasi food culture.
“Our biggest vision is to tell our kasi food stories and take kota to the world,” Nkosi added, emphasising the positive impact that sponsors have on elevating the kota business into a nationally celebrated symbol of creativity and entrepreneurship.
This year’s festival will present over 50 different vendors from across the country, ranging from traditional township sellers to creative food innovators. The FNB Jozi Kota Festival edition promises an electrifying experience for customers and brands alike, ensuring an unforgettable celebration of the unique flavours and cultural richness of South Africa’s township cuisine.
