Durban, South Africa — The Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K is set to deliver more than just a world-class road running experience this winter, with one lucky participant walking—or rather driving—away with a brand-new vehicle courtesy of Chery South Africa.
Taking place on Sunday, 12 July 2026, the ninth edition of the Durban race introduces a high-impact incentive: a Chery vehicle valued at R279,900 will be awarded to a randomly selected finisher, adding a compelling dimension to one of the country’s most popular 10km events.
Rewarding Participation at Every Level
Open to both elite athletes and social runners, the Durban leg of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series continues to blur the lines between competitive sport and inclusive mass participation.
To qualify for the vehicle draw, runners simply need to:
- Register and pay the entry fee
- Collect their race number
- Start and complete the 10km route on race day
This structure reinforces the event’s core philosophy: every participant has a chance to win, regardless of pace or position.

A Partnership Driving Value
Since joining the series as Vehicle Partner in 2022, Chery South Africa has already handed over 18 vehicles to participants across various race cities. The most recent winner was crowned at the Gqeberha leg in March, setting the tone for an exciting 2026 season.
Stillwater Sports Managing Director and Series Founder Michael Meyer says the partnership continues to elevate the race-day experience:
“One of the standout moments of the day will once again be the opportunity for one lucky participant to drive away in a brand-new Chery vehicle. Prizes of this nature not only elevate the event but also reflect our commitment to inspiring active lifestyles.”
Durban Takes Centre Stage
With its coastal route and vibrant atmosphere, Durban provides the perfect backdrop for a race that celebrates both performance and community spirit.
The race will:
- Start: 08:00 at Masabalala Yengwa Avenue
- Finish: Sunkist Lawns along the iconic Durban Promenade
The scenic course, combined with winter sunshine and ocean views, has cemented Durban’s reputation as one of the most enjoyable stops on the national running calendar.

Aligning Performance with Lifestyle
For Chery South Africa, the partnership is about more than brand visibility—it’s about aligning with a lifestyle defined by movement, energy, and accessibility.
CEO Tony Liu highlighted the synergy:
“Rewarding one lucky participant allows us to honour the commitment and passion of runners while embracing the energy of this remarkable city. Durban’s coastal lifestyle aligns strongly with the versatility of our vehicles.”
A Series That Keeps Growing
The Durban race forms part of a five-city national series that continues to attract thousands of runners annually:
- Gqeberha 10K – 1 March 2026
- Cape Town 10K – 10 May 2026
- Durban 10K – 12 July 2026
- Tshwane 10K – 23 August 2026
- Joburg 10K – 24 September 2026
With each stop, the series strengthens its position as a premier road running platform, blending elite competition with mass participation and lifestyle-driven incentives.
More Than a Race
As anticipation builds for July, the Durban edition stands out as more than just a 10km run—it’s a celebration of achievement, accessibility, and community connection.
And for one runner, it will be a day that starts at the starting line and ends in the driver’s seat.
