JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s fastest-growing 5km road running event is back, with organisers officially announcing the return of the 2026 Boxer Super Run, promising two exciting race-day experiences in Durban and Johannesburg later this year.
The Boxer Super Run Durban will take place on Sunday, 18 October 2026, while the Boxer Super Run Joburg follows on Sunday, 15 November 2026, inviting thousands of runners, walkers and families to lace up for what has become one of the country’s most inclusive road-running events.
Since its launch in 2023, the Boxer Super Run has rapidly established itself as a favourite on South Africa’s athletics calendar, combining competitive racing with a fun, family-friendly atmosphere that welcomes participants of all ages and fitness levels.
A race for everyone
Unlike traditional road races, the Boxer Super Run celebrates the world’s most popular running distance—5km—making it accessible to elite athletes, club runners, casual joggers, walkers and first-time participants alike.
Whether chasing a personal best or simply enjoying an active morning with family and friends, the event offers something for everyone.
Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports, said the event continues to grow because of its welcoming and inclusive approach.
“We’re excited to officially announce the 2026 Boxer Super Run dates and invite runners, walkers and families to save the dates for what promises to be another unforgettable series,” said Meyer.
“Since its launch in 2023, the Boxer Super Run has grown into a celebration of fitness, community and fun, proving that the 5km distance truly is for everyone.”
He added that organisers are looking forward to welcoming thousands of participants to both host cities.
“Whether you’re chasing a personal best, taking on your first road race or simply looking to enjoy an active day out with friends and family, the Boxer Super Run offers an experience that welcomes participants of all ages and fitness levels.”

Building stronger communities
For Boxer Superstores, the event represents more than just a sporting competition.
Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores, said the race reflects the retailer’s commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles while bringing communities together.

Durban kicks off the series
The Durban event will once again take place along the city’s scenic beachfront, starting on Snell Parade near Blue Lagoon Park before finishing at Blue Lagoon Park.
Participants will have several starting options, including:
- 07:00 – Open Wave (club runners, schools, serious runners and the general public)
- 08:00 to 09:30 – Super Social Wave (dress-up groups, charities, corporate teams and social participants)
- 09:45 – Elite Women’s Race
- 10:00 – Elite Men’s Race
Entries, priced at R100, open on 6 August 2026, with the race open to participants aged 9 years and older.
Johannesburg to close the season
The second event heads to Johannesburg on 15 November, with runners starting on Orange Road in Emmarentia before finishing at Marks Park Sports Club.
The race schedule mirrors Durban’s wave format, while also introducing a dedicated 1km Kids Race at 10:30, giving younger athletes an opportunity to join the festivities.
Entries open on 27 August 2026 and close on 9 November, or once capacity has been reached.
More than just a medal
Every registered participant will receive a comprehensive race pack that includes:
- An official Boxer Super Run performance T-shirt
- A goodie bag
- Race number and timing chip
- A finisher’s medal
- A vibrant on-route entertainment experience
The elite races will once again see South Africa’s top athletes battle for the coveted titles of King and Queen of the Boxer Super Run 5K, while thousands of recreational runners will focus on achieving personal bests—or simply enjoying the experience.
