Johannesburg, 28 September 2026 — Whether the goal is a personal best, a competitive showdown, a social morning with friends or simply the joy of moving together, the Boxer Super Run Joburg is giving participants four different ways to experience the same 5km challenge.

Taking place at Marks Park Sports Club on Sunday, 15 November 2026, the event will bring runners of all backgrounds together for a morning that combines competitive racing, community spirit, entertainment and plenty of personality.

While the Elite Women and Elite Men races are invitation-only, participants can choose between the Open Wave and Super Social Wave, allowing them to select an experience that matches their goals and preferred race-day atmosphere.

A 5km built around choice

“The Boxer Super Run is all about giving people the freedom to experience 5km running in their own way,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports.

“Whether you’re chasing a personal best in the Open Wave, bringing a group of friends or colleagues together in the Super Social Wave, or lining up among the country’s top athletes in the Elite Race, there is a place for everyone on the Boxer Super Run start line.”

That flexibility is central to the character of the Boxer Super Run, where the competitive intensity of elite racing sits alongside the relaxed, social energy of mass participation.

Open Wave: Chase the clock

For runners looking to test their speed, the Open Wave gets underway at 07:00.

The wave is aimed at participants who want a more competitive 5km experience without necessarily being part of the invited elite field. Club runners, school teams and athletes chasing personal bests can use the race to test their fitness, push their pace and measure themselves against fellow runners.

With an early start and a competitive atmosphere, the Open Wave provides an opportunity to attack the 5km with purpose.

Super Social Wave: Run your way

Not every runner arrives at the start line with a stopwatch in mind.

The Super Social Wave, which runs from 08:00 to 09:30, is designed for participants who want to enjoy the experience at their own pace.

Families, friends, colleagues, charities and social groups can walk, jog or run together without the pressure of chasing a finishing time.

And personality is very much encouraged.

Participants are invited to dress up, bring their energy and make the 5km their own, creating a colourful and entertaining atmosphere throughout the morning.

Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores, says the event reflects the many different reasons people take part in 5km running.

“Some participants will arrive with a time goal, others will be taking on their first 5km, while many will simply want to spend the morning having fun with the people around them.” “We love seeing all of these runners come together at the Boxer Super Run and create an atmosphere that is welcoming, energetic and full of personality,” she adds.

Elite racing brings the speed

Once the mass-participation waves have made their mark, attention turns to the elite races.

The Elite Women race starts at 09:45, followed by the Elite Men at 10:00.

These invitation-only races will bring some of South Africa’s leading road runners together for a high-intensity battle over 5km.

For spectators, the elite races provide an opportunity to experience the tactics and raw speed of top-level road running at close range.

The contrast between the elite competition and the social waves is part of what makes the Boxer Super Run distinctive: everyone takes on the same distance, but every runner can have a very different experience.

The next generation gets its turn

The running action continues after the elite races with the 1km Kids Race at 10:30, giving younger participants their own opportunity to experience the excitement of race day.

It adds another family-focused dimension to an event designed to make running accessible and enjoyable across generations.

Joburg ready for another 5km celebration

The Boxer Super Run Joburg will start on Orange Road in Emmarentia, with participants finishing at Marks Park Sports Club.

Entries for the 2026 event are already sold out, underlining the demand for a race that places as much emphasis on the experience as it does on competition.

Every entrant receives a Boxer Super Run event performance T-shirt, goodie bag, race number and timing chip, on-route experience and finisher’s medal.

With four waves, one distance and thousands of runners bringing their own reasons for being there, Joburg is set for a 5km celebration where speed, community and fun share the same starting line.
