PACHUCA, MEXICO – South Africa’s national football team, Bafana Bafana, has officially begun its preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after arriving in Pachuca, Mexico, for a specialised altitude training camp designed to sharpen the squad ahead of football’s biggest global stage.

The team’s arrival in North America marks the beginning of an important phase in their World Cup journey, with coaches and players focused on acclimatising to conditions similar to those expected during the tournament, which will be hosted across Mexico, the United States and Canada.

Pachuca, situated more than 2,400 metres above sea level, offers ideal conditions for altitude training, allowing players to adapt physically and improve endurance ahead of what is expected to be an intense and demanding competition.

The squad’s departure from South Africa was preceded by a brief delay linked to visa processing requirements, while supporters also had an opportunity to bid farewell to the team during a spirited send-off event that showcased the growing excitement surrounding South Africa’s return to the global football showcase.

Despite the logistical challenges, the mood within the camp remains positive, with players eager to maximise every training session as preparations intensify.

The technical team views the Mexico-based camp as a strategic investment in performance, ensuring players are exposed to conditions that mirror several World Cup host venues. Sports scientists and conditioning specialists are expected to closely monitor the players throughout the camp to optimise fitness levels and adaptation.

For many members of the squad, the opportunity to represent South Africa on football’s grandest stage is both a privilege and a responsibility. The training camp provides a critical platform for building tactical cohesion, strengthening team chemistry, and refining game plans ahead of the tournament.

Supporters back home will be encouraged by the team’s focused approach as Bafana Bafana seeks to make a meaningful impact at the World Cup and continue the progress that has seen the national side regain its status as one of Africa’s most competitive teams.

The coming weeks will be crucial as the coaching staff assesses player readiness, fine-tunes tactical systems, and prepares the squad for the challenges that await against some of the world’s strongest footballing nations.

With the countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup gathering momentum, Bafana Bafana’s training base in Pachuca has become the foundation for a campaign built on ambition, preparation, and the hope of making South Africa proud on the global stage.

As training sessions continue under the Mexican sun, one objective remains clear: ensuring that Bafana Bafana arrives at the World Cup physically prepared, mentally focused, and ready to compete with the best teams in the world.
