The South African Music Awards are officially coming “home.”

In a major announcement that has electrified South Africa’s entertainment industry, the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) confirmed that the 32nd edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) will return to the North West Province on 15 August 2026, marking what organisers are calling a historic and emotional homecoming for the country’s premier music celebration.

Widely recognised as the “Platinum Province” and long regarded as the traditional home of the SAMAs, the North West has hosted some of the awards’ most memorable moments over the years, cementing its legacy as one of the event’s most iconic destinations.

The highly anticipated announcement was made on 27 May 2026 by North West MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation Galerekwe Tsotso Tlhapi, who expressed immense pride and excitement at the return of the prestigious awards ceremony.

“It feels like yesterday when we hosted the 28th instalment of the SAMAs here in North West,” said MEC Tlhapi.

“This province has always been a proud and capable host, and we are ready once again to welcome the nation.”

The MEC described the return of the awards as more than just another entertainment event, calling it a celebration of the province’s cultural identity, hospitality and growing creative economy.

The SAMAs remain South Africa’s most prestigious music awards platform, recognising excellence across the country’s diverse and evolving music landscape while celebrating artists who continue shaping African sound and culture on the global stage.

According to SAMA spokesperson Unati Gwija, preparations for the awards are already underway, with extensive stakeholder consultations currently taking place to ensure a world-class production.

“We have already begun extensive stakeholder consultations in preparation for the SAMAs,” Gwija confirmed.

“There is a strong sense of excitement and unity as we return to the North West, a province that has proven itself as an exceptional host.”

The announcement has already generated widespread excitement among artists, producers, music executives and fans, many of whom view the North West Province as deeply connected to the legacy and identity of the SAMAs.

Over the years, the awards have evolved into far more than a music ceremony. The event has become a major cultural and economic platform that drives tourism, showcases local talent, stimulates hospitality industries and places South African music firmly in the continental and global spotlight.

Industry observers expect SAMA 32 to deliver one of the most vibrant editions in recent history, blending music, fashion, culture and entertainment in what is anticipated to be a spectacular showcase of South African creativity.

MEC Tlhapi has already dubbed the upcoming ceremony the “Homecoming Edition” — a symbolic return to familiar ground that honours both the awards’ rich history and the continued evolution of South African music.

As anticipation builds towards August 2026, the return of the SAMAs to the North West Province is expected to reignite national pride while reaffirming the awards’ position as the country’s biggest celebration of musical excellence.
