Johannesburg – 1 February 2026

The Gauteng MEC for Finance and Economic Development, Lebogang Maile, will on Sunday, 1 February 2026, brief the media on the state of municipal finances in Gauteng, providing a detailed assessment of the financial performance of municipalities across the province.

The media briefing will present a consolidated analysis of municipal revenue and expenditure for the first six months of the 2025/26 financial year, offering insight into the fiscal health of local government and the effectiveness of current financial management practices.

MEC Maile is also expected to outline key interventions aimed at strengthening governance, improving financial management, and enhancing service delivery at municipal level. These interventions form part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to stabilise municipalities, improve accountability, and ensure that public funds are utilised efficiently for the benefit of communities.

The briefing comes at a critical time as municipalities continue to face challenges related to revenue collection, expenditure control, and service delivery backlogs. The MEC will highlight measures being implemented to address these challenges and to reinforce compliance with financial regulations and governance standards.
