Sharpeville, Vaal – For Bontle Ntaopane, entrepreneurship has never been just about business; it has been about passion, resilience, and turning challenges into stepping stones. At 40, the founder of Lavish Lifestyle Events (Pty) Ltd has emerged as one of the Vaal’s most inspiring entrepreneurs, reshaping the hospitality and events landscape with creativity and grit.
Born and raised in Sharpeville, Bontle matriculated at Jet Nteo Secondary School in 2001 before pursuing a National Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting at the Vaal University of Technology. She then embarked on a 16-year career in the banking sector. But while corporate life offered stability, her heart was elsewhere—hospitality. With restaurateurs for a father and grandmother, the love of food and service was in her DNA.
“I started cooking at 14, making Sunday meals for my family. I never thought it would grow into a career, but looking back, it was my training ground,” she recalls.
Determined to follow her calling, she resigned from banking and enrolled for a Higher Certificate in Hospitality Management at the International Hotel School, equipping herself with professional skills to match her passion.
The Birth of Lavish Lifestyle Events
What began as a hobby in 2015—organising office farewells, year-end functions, and milestone celebrations—soon grew into something bigger. Encouraged by positive feedback, Bontle registered Lavish Lifestyle Events (Pty) Ltd, initially specialising in event décor.
But the arrival of COVID-19 in 2020 threatened to close this chapter. With gatherings banned, the events industry ground to a halt. Many would have given up—but not Bontle.
Pivoting Through the Pandemic
Instead of waiting for restrictions to ease, she innovated. Lavish Gifts and Flowers was launched, focusing on curated gift packages and floral deliveries for birthdays, anniversaries, hospital visits, and special occasions.
This pivot kept the business alive and positioned it as a lifeline during uncertain times. “People couldn’t gather, but they still wanted to connect, celebrate, and show love. That’s what we made possible,” Bontle explains.
Yet, as lockdowns eased and public gatherings returned, demand for gifts and flowers declined. Once again, she pivoted.
BBQ Fridays and Culinary Expansion
Enter BBQ Fridays with Bontle—a concept that brought the community together around good food, flavour, and the spirit of celebration. It was an instant hit. Building on this success, she introduced “Mogodu Mondays” and “Masapo le cabbage” Wednesdays, expanding her culinary offerings and creating themed dining experiences rooted in South African culture.
The kitchen became the new frontier for Lavish Lifestyle Events, and soon, the brand was catering not just for locals, but for corporates and major events.
