TXC MAKES HISTORY AS SA’s FIRST DJ DUO to take international BET award

In a landmark achievement for South African music, the genre-defying Amapiano duo, TXC, has been honoured as the Best New International Act at the 2025 BET Awards, held in Los Angeles. This represents a significant milestone, marking the first time a South African DJ duo has claimed this prestigious accolade, reinforcing the growing influence of Amapiano on the global stage.

Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Peace Mabe, extended her heartfelt congratulations to TXC, expressing the pride felt across the nation. Speaking from Pretoria, she described the award not just as a personal triumph for the duo, but as a victory for all young South African creatives striving to make their mark in the world. “TXC’s win is a beautiful reminder of the extraordinary talent we have in this country,” she stated, adding, “Their win is South Africa’s win.”

Mabe further highlighted the importance of such achievements in inspiring the youth, emphasising that TXC’s success serves as a beacon for every young girl and aspiring artist: “What TXC have achieved is not just personal—it is symbolic. It tells our youth that global stages are within reach.”

The Deputy Minister reinforced the commitment of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture to bolster the development of South African artists through various initiatives, including access to funding and opportunities for international exposure. TXC’s victory, she noted, validates the necessity of sustained public investment in the arts. “We remain committed to nurturing our creatives from the ground up,” Mabe affirmed. “Our job is to make sure that more artists like TXC have the space and support to rise, thrive, and represent our culture with pride.”

TXC has been making waves internationally, captivating audiences with their innovative performances and signature sound. By consistently flying the South African flag high, they have carved out a prominent place for themselves on the global music scene, showcasing the rich cultural heritage that underpins their artistry.

In reflecting on this significant moment, Deputy Minister Mabe urged South Africans to remember the trailblazers who came before, acknowledging that the foundations laid by past artists support today’s success stories. Under her direction, the Van Toeka Af Living Legends Recognition Series was launched in 2023 to honour those who have shaped the country’s cultural identity. “Today we celebrate TXC,” she said. “But we also remember that today’s victories are built on yesterday’s foundations. That’s what keeps our culture alive.”
