Luanda, 30 September 2026 — Standard Bank Angola (SBA) has formally marked its transition into a publicly listed company with a “Ring the Bell” ceremony celebrating the admission of its shares to trading on the Equity Market operated by the Angola Debt and Securities Exchange (BODIVA).
The milestone enables the free trading of SBA shares on a regulated market and represents a significant new chapter for the bank as it expands its engagement with investors and the broader Angolan financial market.
The ceremony was attended by Sim Tshabalala, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Bank Group, whose visit to Luanda underscored the Group’s strategic focus on Angola and its long-term commitment to the country’s economic development.
Tshabalala said SBA’s listing represented an important milestone for both the bank and the development of Angola’s capital markets.
“Our presence in Angola for more than a decade reflects Standard Bank Group’s long-term commitment to the country and its growth potential,” Tshabalala said.
He added that the listing was aligned with Standard Bank Group’s commitment, announced at its Capital Markets Day in March, to continue investing in high-growth African markets.
The Group CEO’s visit also included institutional engagements with stakeholders and organisations focused on the development of Angola’s financial sector, investment mobilisation and sustainable economic growth.
A new chapter for Standard Bank Angola
For SBA, the listing marks the culmination of a process involving multiple teams and partners and establishes a new relationship with shareholders and the wider market.
Luís Teles, CEO of Standard Bank Angola, said the bank enters its listed-company phase with a renewed focus on accountability, resilience and sustainable value creation.
“As a listed company, we are reinforcing our accountability to shareholders and the market, while remaining guided by the principles that have defined our journey: resilience, discipline and a strong focus on our clients’ needs,” Teles said.
The move is expected to strengthen SBA’s market visibility and transparency while broadening its engagement with investors.
The listing also places the bank within the evolving landscape of Angola’s capital markets, as the country seeks to deepen its financial markets and expand opportunities for investment and capital mobilisation.
Seventh company admitted to BODIVA’s Equity Market
BODIVA, which operates Angola’s stock exchange market, also participated in the ceremony, highlighting the broader significance of SBA’s admission.
Dr Cristina Lourenço, CEO of BODIVA, said the admission of Standard Bank Angola marked the entry of the seventh company to the exchange.
She said the development reinforced BODIVA’s commitment to building a more dynamic and deeper capital market capable of responding to the financing and investment needs of the Angolan economy.
SBA’s market debut therefore represents more than a corporate milestone. It adds another listed institution to Angola’s developing equity market while giving investors an additional avenue through which to participate in the country’s financial sector.
For Standard Bank Group, meanwhile, the listing reinforces its stated strategy of supporting growth and investment across key African markets, with Angola continuing to form part of its long-term regional footprint.
